Default bought used 1/6 M5 Stuart Tank(up-dated)2-Used-1-New Plus 1/6 humvee

Well I just bought a used M5 Stuart tank (century 21 brand) Off of ebay--(first time I ever bid on anything on ebay).I was the high bidder tonight and just got the e-mail.Waiting to get everything paid and confirmed and seeing its with-in around 60 miles or so I will pick it up in person and not take a chance on getting it shipped to me in a damaged condition. If it is in the condition the seller says it is,everything is suppose to work on it.I don't think they are a very good looking tank, but they are the scale size I wanted. Can anyone tell me the good, the bad,and the ugly about these tanks. Thanks in advance-----BIGMIG

Thank you swathdiver,
I have been looking at these off and on for a long time now, finally decided to try my luck at one. They have been selling
for what i thought was quite high for mostly used models.Got this one at a decent price, now if everything goes well I will have a new addition to my other tanks.Looking forward to seeing it in person, pictures never realy tell me much. When you buy used sight un-seen you are always taking a chance on what you realy get. Hello Dap,
I see you are on the forum now so I'll ask a little about these on the forum.I'm still trying to close the deal as I write so I was a little reluctant to get asking about one of these till I made sure I have one.I will pick it up I hope tomorrow.First off is the stock controls in these any good overall (but will be up-grading I'm sure),I have seen a few guys talking about running these with the stock controls. But don't know what their expectations was and what they call a good running tank with stock controls.
Next would be how well made the stock tracks and suspensions was on this scale tank, are they usable or is a better set of tracks required right from the start.Any help with these questions, and any other helpfull opinion you may have would be appriciated.

Hey BIGMIG! Congrats on the Stuart! I remember years and years ago in the war type comic books I was reading, a continuing story about a Stuart in WW2 France. It was haunted by none other than General Stuart himself !

I do get to play with it...right?[sm=red_smile.gif]

DAP and PattonCommander will be helpful and you can also find information on Wild Willys site, customrcmodels.com and there's also a dedicated forum for the Stuart on Yahoo Groups. Have you seen the website with the cool aftermarket transmission and the Honda 4-stroke engine? Seen it jumping bicycle ramps?

I would like to see a tank jumping a ramp,I think these guys are fairly heavy. This one I'm getting is suppose to be somewhere between 30 and 40 pounds.I can't look at most of the video stuff here on RCU because I'm on a stone age telephone system that dont offer the high speed systems in my area. Can't believe I'm 17 miles from Portland Oregon which is a pretty good sized city, not counting Vancouver washington area where I live(one of the fastest growing cities in the state of washington).I'm stuck with dial-up
internet service,it sucks. BIGMIG

P.S. Yes I do have satelite t.v. but wont pay the price to have wireless through it---

Don't blame you BM about satelite internet it is expensive and you still need to use the phone line for uploading. At least that's the way it is here in Canada. You get fast downloads but slow going out, and if heavy clouds, rain, or snow you loose the signal dispite what the satelite companies tell you. You can't believe the satelite companies, I was with one company and the other said with our new systems you never loose signal so I switched and the first storm.... you got it out went the satelite signal

Man, I don't miss dial up at all! At times I thought I had to pull the string just a little tighter just to download pictures!

I feel for you guys.

Hey BIGMIG.
I wanted to post this last night but the wife had other ideas. She won.
A couple of the guys in the club are running the original controllers and are happy with them. They are more into detail than running. I had to change mine out right away. It wouldnt go ten feet before loosing signal. I have it on a Spektrum 6 now. Works great. I have also switched to a Scorpion esc and swapped out the motors. Also running a cooling fan (part of the motor experiment). I have moved all the switches and made a faux firing unit. As for running gear I have never had any trouble. I broke a track once because a large stone got in there on the far side. Couldnt see what was going on. Pop. Easy fix if you have extra. I have run it hard at shows both indoor and out and its always performed. Im not much of a Stuart fan but for the money they cant be beat. Detailing is easy as there is so much 1/6th stuff to be had. Weight is about 40 pounds. So, down side. Sometimes poor performance of the radio. They take up way more space. If your picky, barrel is wrong and at a funny angle. Visable switches. Tracks are wrong. Maybe more but they escape me.

Hello Dap,
Thanks for the reply and the info---I'll be going to pick up the tank in a few minutes.Buying of the inter-net is risky and one never knows what you will get until its in your hand.I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that this tank will be as addvertised and in working condition.I will find out soon, and will post the results tonight. well I just got back home with my tank and I got very lucky,it is a good one.The guy I bought it from was a heck of a nice young man.He had it setting there waiting for me and he gave me a nice demo-run and showed me all the features and how everything worked.Ran it around a little myself in his shop, and he even loaded it for me in my car."VERY NICE GUY"-----He had a nice collection of 1/6 scale jeeps he also showed me while I was there,he had just sold some of them on ebay.It was about 115 mile round trip drive for me to go get it (3hr 15 min and $17.00 dollars gas) so I saved a lot out of the posted $58.00 dollar shipping fee and did not have to take a chance on my tank getting dammaged in shipping.Plus it was a beutiful day today and got me out of the house.
Very happy with this tank, and they are pretty darn "big".Will post a few pictures latter tonight------BIGMIG

Here is a few pictures of the tank with a 1/16 Tiger setting beside it for a scale refference for those of you like me who have not seen one of these up-close----BIGMIG
They are pretty good sized and the guy I bought it from says they weigh in at around 40 pounds, but it feels a little lighter than that.

P.S. I don't think one of these is going to be enough now that I have one--LOL
