Default 28% Extra 300 Rebuild, also in need of parts.

Unbelievably this last spring when I pulled my Extra 300 (my absolute favorite airplane) out of mothballs for the summer flying season I discovered that a couple of mice had managed to infiltrate my basement and tried turning my Extra into a new home. They did an incredible amount of damage literally chewing up over half of all the balsa on the bottom of the fuselage, and scratching off a good portion of Styrofoam down as well. They also urinated on the fuel tank deck to where plywood started to swell and the layers separate.

I have cut out all of the damaged balsa and meticulously removed any damaged plywood. I’ve also stripped and disinfected what remains (which isn’t much) and have started painstakingly rebuilding my Extra.

I’ve also decided to go all out with rebuilding it making sure all the seams are perfect, building as light and strong as I know how to make it, and then also decided to convert it from an Extra 300L two seat’er to an Extra 300S single seat’er and build up a more scale looking dash with instrument decals.

I’m also in need of some parts, I need landing gear fairings, wheel pants, and a 13mm carbon fiber tube for the elevator. Can anyone help?

Most sincerely, Thanks

Repairs are progressing. Does anyone happen to know what the V2 Extra300 weighed by itself? I am meticulously trying to rebuild mine doing everything I can to keep the weight down but I don't have a base reference. Can anyone help?

Thanks

As I recall the components that came with the plane weighed between 10 and 11 lbs, but that's from memory and could be wrong.

Most sincerely thank you Tom.

I'm trying so hard to keep the weight down with the repairs. I have a carbon fiber wing tube and replaced the elevator stab tube with carbon fiber. I'm also thinking about switching to carbon fiber landing gear just to save on weight. I'm even grinding away any excess epoxy from the glue joints. I just hope that I can make the 11lb limit.

Thanks again Tom!

Again thanks Tom, everything in the picture below weighs in at 8.9 pounds leaving me with 2.1 pounds to finish the plane with which makes me feel a lot better.

Again, Thanks!

I have brand new landing gear fairings that mount to the gear next to the fuse.

Sorry about the confusion Tom, I was replying to Mrbigg's post. He has a set of wheel fairings that I can use.

I'll definately be emailing you if I have any other needs.

Again, Thanks!

Things are progressing, completed the muffler tunnel lining it with 1/32" plywood to keep any future mice from potentially getting into the plane (along with a whole lot of mouse traps around my storage area). So far I'm up to 9lbs, 7ounces leaving me with 1lb, 9ounces to finish the rebuild. Might just have enough weight allowance for a smoke pump.
