Default ?s For Wildhare Owners

First of all, I am throughly impressed but the content of the Wild Hare website. On to the questions.

I have read numerous quotes here and elsewhere of owners raving on the quality of the design and workmanship of all Wild Hare aircraft. Are these planes that great?

I have been flying RC for about 3 years now. Mostly .40 size glow powered but I am ready to bite the bullet and jump on the bunnie wagon.

I have a practically brand new G62, Futaba Super 8 w/8 channel PCM receiver, 8 Hitec HS645MGs, and 2 2000 mah NIMH bats. I plan on purchasing a 28% Wild Hare Edge 540T. Is there anything wrong with the setup I plan to use?

All info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Mike M

I have this setup, and it works well. You might want to upgrade the servo's a little, but other than that it should work well for you.

Obviously a question for the group, my answer is too obvious.

Reply to Kingdom802.

Thanks for the info. Just a quick question.

The Hitec HS645MG has 133 oz. of torque at 6volts. The Edge online manual says that 100 oz servos are required for the elevators, 120 oz for the ailerons, and 180 oz for the rudder. I plan to use 2 servos for the rudder. I know you should use the best that you can afford. But I don't see a problem with the numbers. Do you?

Will it fly?...sure verry well in fact. However it wont be a 3D monster. It will get you started in GS Gassers, and be a great teaching tool for your next GS project. If I remeber corectly with the G62 in the noes you need 2 rudder servos in the tail for ballance. If you want to lighten the G62 considerably contact RCIGN1 on the gas engines forum, He converts zenoha engins to Sincro spark electronic ignittion and removes a bunch of weight.

Getting the bunny will be the most fun youve had in RC since you soloed...at least it was for me!

I agree with Kingdom902. The 645's will fly the plane, but will not provide you with the precision, speed, and excitement that you would ENJOY with a quality metal geared digital servo. IMO, a minimum of an HS 5925 would be in order, and better for the rudder.

In agreement with Mstroh, it just won't 3D worth the title with the 645's. The engine choice is just fine and has been proven to be so many times over. Go with his suggestion about the conversion, you won't be sorry.

Well you all know what I am going to say.

Hitect 645's are ok, but just that ok and not great. The digital versions are much more precise and stronger. Your setup will get you going in gas and GS planes. Once you make the leap you will not want to go back. I guess the best way to describe how the planes fly -on rails.

Wild Hares are a great value, tough, and yes can handle whatever you dish out. The better the gear you have, the more enjoyable and possibly successful your leap will be. Do yourself a favor and get the hardware package from Tom. Trust me do it on your own and it will be bits and pieces and cost more. Sure you can decide to replace small things here and there, but Tom's hardware kit is Dubro stuff and name brand anyway.

Mike, you didn't tell us... what kind of flying do you plan to do? I have a 28% WH Extra with a G62 converted by RCIGN1 and you can't really go wrong with that setup as your first GS aerobatic gasser. Without conversion will work well also but I like to keep Ralph busy shaving metal parts for engines

Your setup will be fine to get started in gas. I have used 645s lots of times and if you get the new version there is nothing at all wrong with them. I have had SEVERAL 59xx servos go bad, but never had a 645 poop out on me. They are not as fast, but they are strong and the ones I have had center pretty well. WildHare planes are a good value and the quality and customer service is there. Put it together and have fun.

I plan to fly the plane as a sport flyer / beginner 3D. I have been flying .40 size fun fly planes and look forward to getting the 28% Edge and getting into the GS Gassers.

I like the .40 size planes but find it very difficult to fly any maneuver with precision. My hopes are that the GS Gasser will help with that difficulty.

Thanks to all for the info.

3D is fun I am confident the my Wild Hare down on the deck. Yes GS planes hold lines much better. They just fly so much better than .40 size. They can actually float unlike the .40 size which are kinda twitchy.

Only issue that the Wild Hare 28% Edge has is wing rock in harriers and elevators or with slow stalls and elevated nose. This has been my only regret in my purchase of this plane made for 3D, I understand that someone has done some elevator and rudder modifacations moving the elevators halves forward 1.25" forward and enlarging the rudder found at this link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3506160/tm.htm

This plane flys straight and holds great lines, rolls axial on a straight line and would be great for a person starting first gassers in large scale. But be aware, if you are buying this plane to do the full package of 3D tricks now being performed by the 3D pilots, keep in mind the wing rock. This is surely a scarey feeling when trying to slow down right above the ground. If Tom could nail this problem in the 28% production run he would have a golden nugget. Just my 2 cents worth...

I say use the equipment you have for now...you'll enjoy flying the plane so much that upgrading the servos later won't be a problem. Have fun and just fly the plane...don't worry so much about the scales and spending a fortune just yet...that will come later.
