That plane was contracted to Xtreme Composites. I have paid them a great deal of money and they have failed to produce a prototype now for a year. They promise and promise but never deliver.

I doubt that they ever will produce a plane. This is why I did the all wood plane as a backup, but it's turning out to be an awesome plane.

Live and learn.

KInda makes you wonder where Comp Arf obtained the design for their 260, doesn't it?

At this point to me its dead. If they ever produce a plane I'll reconsider, but I figure if they do step 2 will be to raise the price so high it wont sell like they did with the Sukhoi.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Pat, Ive seen and flown the Comp ARF 260. It looks nothing like the pictures Tom published of the WH 260 plugs. I'v been keeping my ears open for reports of the 40% 300 but nothing yet. I was offered the oppertunity to fly one in Vegas a few weeks back but it fell through. Quite dissapointing.

Shawn,

I never saw the plugs or the final design, but it was really coincidental that one company that wasn't even talking about a big 260 suddenly came out with one shortly after Tom premiered his design. I had been spending some time with Bill Hemple in July last year and talking about it with him, and he was thinking that a release at the end of last year or the beginning of this one was right in line. The final design had not been fully completed at that time.

I would be very interested in seeing the two designs side by side. 40 to 42 % is not much different, and if all the angles were in the right places you'r know for sure.

In fairness to Extreme composites, the CA Extra 260 was already out when Extreme was supposed to have delivered the first sample, that was 9 months ago.

However the CA 260 is really, well, IMHO it's unattractive at best. They may have copied the idea, but I think the mold is their own.

Silversurfer

This is an out of topic question, but now that you mentioned that you know Bill Hempel and if Im not mistaken you fly UAV for the military, I want to know if you were one of his students. Im in the NAVY and about a year out to tranfer to a new command so I was wondering if you could give me the name of the "school" and any additional info so that way I can apply for it? And of course Im only assuming here

I agree Tom, the CA 260 has been fudged quite a bit. The rear section of the fuse was made taller to aid in knife edge flight. Thats one of the reasons I am so interested in your 40% 300. I think that a mid wind design with the big canopy is going to be just the ticket. It looks like I will be heading up to Unlimited next year so I need to start thinking about a new airplane now.

Then think Wild Hare Extra 300, you'llbe glad you did.

I just came back from a flying session, we may have some video soon.

I'm trying. The problem is everyone wants everything immediately and that just does not happen.

It's possible I may need to delay the first shipment a couple weeks to get everything done.

Pit Basher,

Bill and I work for two completely separate entities, with completely different platforms.. I've never attended the "school" that Bill has. You should see that guy fly in person. WOW!!! Even better, he's a super great guy.

I work with some people that are well versed in the system that Bill works with and I will talk to them about it. Send me a PM for future discussion in this area. Include your personal e-mail since I don't like to have anything in this regard located somewhere it can be "looked in" on.

Bill Hempel here!

I hope Tom is wrong with the Extra 260 as it would be a very nice competition platform! I am still holding out hope that the plane will be sent and production will proceed. The all wood 41% Extra that Tom came out with, retains all the same measurments/airfoils as the 260. The proto type Extra 300 flew very well and will out fly the biggest dollar planes out there. The 3D capabilities of the Extra 300 is FANTASTIC! This is one of the best freestyle planes I have ever flow.
Anyone needing to get a hold of me can email me at: [email protected] or through my web site: www.billhempel.com

Most pilots are flying one plane, building one plane, and planning the next plane......I plan on flying the heck out of my 33% 260 and start planning and saving for a 40% it will be a few years out(unless I will the joe nall rafffle)...

Besides from what I understand the wildhare composit 260 is not a sure thing yet, but pictures of the plug is reassuring.

Wonderful idea, but I wonder how many are capable of and willing to step up to the cost of a composite airframe? You can't beat the weight or the way they fly, but the price rises quite a bit over wood framed aircraft. Then you toss in all the desires for a custom color scheme that adds even more to the price.
