Dan, I see in one of the PICs a inline fuel filter on the bird. If you dont mind may I share an experience I had.......I lost a cylinder on a twin due to a inline fuel filter, one of the nice fancy ones VERY similar to what you have. It was leaking air even thought it was threaded together nice and tight and the O-rings were in great shape. I have since changed to a different method of filtering my fuel, I put a fuel filter in my field fuel container so that is filters going into the bird. I personally after having to spend over $300 to have the cylinder rebuilt will NOT install a filter in my bird, atleast not between the tank and the engine.
LOOKS great!

I had one almost burn up because the screen in the carb got clogged with debri, I was running a filter on the gas can. I will be sure to check the tightness of the inline filter when I tear it down each flight and inspect for Air. I also have a vent line filter. I live on and our field is on a gravel road. I get a lot of dust on my planes even though the trailor is sealed, so I have to filter well!

Dan, I completely agree that fuel system needs to be clean and filtered. It took awhile to find my air leak, I tore into the poor carb more than once looking for a leak. As well as replaced the fuel system, only when I had the hatch off running the engine trying to get the needles set right did I see the bubbles after the inline filter and not before it. I never thought about it being the source as I had it squared away, or so I thought!
Looks like a fun bird!!!

Which part of the Tail? I trashed the 8-32 all thread and drilled out the Dubro washers and traingle nuts to accept 10-32.

THESE PLANES ARE GREAT. BUT I HAVE DECIDED TO SELL MINE SO I CAN MOVE UP TO 42%.it only has about 25 flights on it and is pretty much like new. if anyone is interested contact me and make an offer it will be just the bare plane no electronics, engine etc. i will probably leave the gas tank in. looks pretty much like new.

I recently had occasion to test a new CF tailwheel that I bought from China. I found the steering linkage to be less than perfect, in fact it barely worked.

So I decided to try it as fully castering, the tail wheel is free to swing and is not connected to the rudder at all.

To my amazement it worked at least as well as a regular tailwheel that is being steered by the rudder servo. I plan to test the concept on a few more planes but it seems to work well and is certainly easy to install.

It's been crappy weather all weekend so I've had a little time to spend working on the sukhoi. I have the choke setup worked out, just waiting for some glue to dry before finishing the pushrod install. Going to work on baffles and venturi creators to help extract the hot air from the cowl and canister tunnel tomorrow. Will post some more pics soon.

I started cutting the cowl today. I had to cut a slot for the plug cap and I enlarged the hole at the bottom of the cowl to make using the choke pushrod and installing the lower cowl bolts easier.

I have also started on the baffles. I started by making cardboard templates (good use for empty beer boxes) The plan is to use a U-shaped plate at the front of the cowl and them have deflectors angled back towards the cooling fins and crankcase. I'll be using thin balsa sheet laminated in light glass cloth and epoxied to the inside of the cowling. Also I will be adding venturi generators to the bottom of the cowl and canister tunnel.

Here's a few more pics.
