100 cc Extra first flight
We finally got the 100cc Extra in the air, and it flies exactly the same as the 41% Extra. No surprise really. It's weird, once the plane is in the air you really can't tell that you are flying a smaller plane, they look identical.
OK here's the details.
DA-100
KS 86-4 rear exhaust canisters
5955s two per wing one per elevator
JR 8711 one on rudder
Spektrum DX7 radio
Wild Hare hardware kit exactly what I sell with the plane
2x 2400 LiIon packs on Rx with MPI regulators
1x 2100mah Nimh pack on receiver
27-10 Bunny prop
Dave Brown 4 1/2" spinner
Specs;
Wing span 105"
Area 1935 sq. inches
Length 100" including spinner
Weight 28 lbs exactly
The plane flies like it's on rails. Nothing failed and only very minor changes will be made going to production. DA-100 fits with lots of room to spare.
One of my major thought was how easy the plane is to assemble. No hnging is required. The motor box is centered in the cowl opening so mounting the engine is super simple, I'll be supplying templates for DA-100, 3w 106, etc. as needed. Everything else pretty much just drops in.
The interior is cavernous, plenty of room for anything you might want to install.
That's it for now, more flying today to do some trimming. Photos later.

RE: 100 cc Extra first flight
Tom: Sounds great, do you have pricing yet? Have you decided on a final covering scheme, and lastly when will it be available? This is going to make it difficult to decide between this airplane and your new Giles202. I would guess that they will bothe be equally good flying airplanes, so for me the decision will be based upon the covering scheme.

RE: 100 cc Extra first flight
I'll answer several questions.
An Extra, any Extra is cleaner aerodynamically so it does not slow down as quickly. Other than that there are a lot of similarities. Being bigger I think the Extra may be a bit smoother, but my memories of the Sukhoi are a year old, whichever plane I flew last seems to be the best ever, so maybe listen to some others on this.
This plane does the most beautiful elevator I have ever seen. Point it into the wind, set the elevators at the right angle and enough throttle to just overcome the wind and it will descend vertically with no wing rock, no fighting, it just sits still in the air and looks like it could be in an elevator shaft, it comes down so straight and level. If you do it right you could land it in a small backyard (not that I think this is a good idea). Set up the elevtor, let it drop down to a few feet altitude and add some throttle to soften the landing. The entire 3d envelope is TOC caliber, you could fly this plane anywhere.
The likely price is $895. Probable availability is 3 months which would put it 1 July approx.
Since this is a fully shaken down design now I will be getting a pretty large shipment. It will be ahead of the Giles because that plane requires re-testing with a longer fuselage, this one is ready to go now.
Covering scheme is undecided but the one that's on it is spectacular in the air, absolutely no way to mistake which side is up or what direction it's going, andit shows up vividly against a blue sky and a gray sky.
Oh, mixing. We found that it requires less than 5% up elevator mixed with rudder, and about 5% opposite aileron to make it 1 hand knife-edge from horizon to horizon.
It balances fine with a DA-100 with canisters, it has two wing tube locations so you guys with a BME 115 or a strong lightweight single will be able to install your engine without worrying if you will need a bunch of lead in front, it won't.

I'm willing to order ARC, but you must pay in advance and wait forever (it seems like forever) to get it. So far nobody has stepped up.
