Default Old 50cc extra with new wings

Hi,

I have just got hold of an old 50cc Extra, one with foam wings, I also have available a set of wings for the new Extra with only a little damage.

I test flew the extra yesterday with a DL 50, and it flew ok, but much more like a funfly than I would like. Has anyone tried putting a new set of wings on the old extra? They seem to be a bit smaller with more taper, and I think it would suit my flying style better. I have an agressive flying style and like things to happen quickly, for example I found I got bored waiting for the plane to harrier up the strip towards me with so much wing area.

I know I could just upgrade to a more modern plane but Im a bit skint and would like to make the most of this.

thanks,

Thomas

Putting the new wings on that plane si likely to make little or no change. I don't think they are smaller, and they are lighter which will make the plane fly even lighter.

I'd like to hear what happens though.

Maybe you could try just sawing a couple inches off the tips of your old wings, that will make it roll faster.

Ok, thanks Ill try it. They seem to have a bit more taper and slightly less chord at the root. Also the ailerons go further inboard.

What I disliked about it is its very floaty, so hopefully slightly less area will fix that.

We made a bit of video on sunday, so Ill swap the wings and take another and upload them both after next weekend.

Here is a pic.

It didnt work out quite as hoped Im afraid, heres a video;

It felt much better for a bit, rolling more crisply, but obviously the damage to one wing was not just tip damage but a lot more extensive.

It looks like things happened quicker for you. Take a look at the giants in the RCU Marketplace. There are some good deals on there.

I managed to get a mk 2 extra second hand for £50! Its been crashed before and is actually the front of one and the back of another, gonna pull all the covering off and check it over with epoxy and ply. Apparently the mk2 flies a lot better, looks a more modern design.

Very nice flying, apparently you are enjoying that plane.

Can you send me some still photos? That's a very nice scheme, I may consider using it some day.

If possible send to [email protected]

Thanx.
