Here's my freshly finished Edge. Ready to go...but sadly I can't get the engine to run. I'm working on it though.
THanks
Barry

Weight is 17lbs 3ozs ready to fly less fuel. The scale says 17lbs 9ozs but I'm using 6ozs of rope to hold it on the scale.
Plane is a very easy and pleasant build. I really enjoyed it. Everything went together perfectly. Beautiful airplane, I can't wait to do the maiden.
Thanks
Barry

This weight is with a DLE55 engine and a header pipe and a rear exit canister exhaust. It is very quiet. I was surprised how quiet it is at idle and I could get up to 5000RPM. Not sure what is going on exactly but as I mentioned, I'm working on it.
I think this plane looks just a little to "plane". I'm gonna look into a few graphics and decals to do a finish on it.
This weight is very competitive with recent 50cc planes I've built. My EF Yak was 17lbs 9ozs without a cansister. My last Edge (Wild Hare 84" V2) was 16lbs 10ozs. My Aeroworks Yak was 18lbs 6ozs. The new modern 50cc planes are a bit bigger and fly a little better but they are just a tad heavier as well.
Thanks
Barry

Might want to throw the stock exhaust on there to see if it will spin up. My DLE-55 got 7400 on a Xoar 22x8. The DL-50 was the same. Awesome engines.

At that weight and the huge wing area I bet you'll like how it flies.

No....my engine has something wrong with it. It goes up to 5100 RPM and then just quits. I'm looking at the carb being plugged or the ignition having something wrong with it. I'll be doing some more testing tonight.
Thanks
Barry

Be sure to replace your stock spark plug with an NGK CM-6.

Barry:

If you can't get the engine straightened out call me, I'm happy to work on it.

Tom,
I appreciate the offer....but I think I got it. I took the carb apart last night and cleaned it. I used a small wire and poked/cleaned all the ports I could see including the diaphram valve, low and high needle jets and generally inspected and cleaned. I couldn't actually see anything that was obvious but I reassembled and mounted on the plane. It started right up and accelerated right through the 5100 RPM ceiling up to 6960 RPM. At that point I was making 24lbs 3-5 ozs of thrust. That very good for my elevation. My DAs put out about 22-22.5 lbs.

This engine has a very smooth transition and a very reliable idle. I'm most pleased so far. It really did run good. I ran a tank of gas through it and even after the engine was hot it still gave 24lbs thrust.

Very nice running now. I didn't have the cowl on, that is the only difference from the other day. But I can't imagine the cowl causing the problem. And....if it does, I guess I know it's a cowl problem, not an engine problem.

Thanks
Barry

Last night I put the plane together with the cowl, wings, canopy, etc, basically ready to fly. Started the engine and it ran right up to 6960 RPM again. Let the engine warm up good and hot and still it would pull over 6900 RPM. I'm thinking I'm good now.

I'm ready for the maiden flights. Hopefully I can get a way a bit early from work tonight and go out. Really looking forward to getting this sweetheart in the air.

Thanks
Barry
