RE: Baby Edge 540 Pics
With a DLE-30 and a single 6 oz. A123 battery pack mine was 9 lbs. 15 oz. ready to fly, with the 1.20 AX I'd expect the weight to be the same or less, under 10 lbs.
BTW I have some photos of the Edge now with the checkers applied to the wings and stabs.

Hey tom, are there any standoffs you kn ow of that will work with the DLE30? I heard that it is recommended in the manual to make some out of wood, I'd like to get some aluminum ones to make things easier and look nicer in general. I'll have all my money together for the package in one week. Cannot wait, I have heard great things about your company.

The engine needs only about 3/4" of spacing, that's why I suggest just using spacers made from wood. This has some other benefits, it stiffens up the mounting, it's cheap and easy to do, and it can be easily adjusted to get exactly the spacing you need to have the finished plane look right.

RE: Baby Edge 540 Pics
Thanks tom, Im probably going to bother the heck out of you with questions. I've never had a plane this big and never had dual elevator servo's. How do I manage that with my radio, do I need a synchronizer or do I use two separate channels like with the ailerons? ( I will have a 7c radio so 2 channels dedicated to elevator will leave me manually choking the engine or without a kill switch). Sorry for the newb question

I think I figured out my radio situation. I will get a RDS8000 and use 2 channels for ailerons, 2 for the elevators, 1 for throttle, 1 for rudder, 1 for kill switch and one for powering the receiver. I will just manually choke the engine

If you run out of places to plug in the power, I find it very handy to use two short Y cables on the aileron channels. This gives you two handy places to plug in the ailerons and two places to plug in the power. FYI on virtually all radios you can plug power into any servo slot, so a Y cable anywhere gives you another place for power.
The RSD-8000 is a decent radio but it's missing a few features such as dual rates on the rudder. I have the new Hitec Auroras in stock now, it's a top level radio at a price just above the very cheap radios.

You are awesome Tom, thanks! And the Aurora look sweeeeet but I don;t think I can drop 400 on a radio right now, I need a buffer for all the little things I will need for the plane. I've got time so I am not all that worried right now, maybe I will just wait a bit and save for the aurora.

Hey Tom, do you still have a good supply of Aurora 9's in stock (7 channel receive units)?? I just watched a few videos on them and now feel like it is worth the extra investment over the 7c or rds. Within the next week you shall be receiving a quite substantial order from me

Whooooo just ordered my edge! Holding off on the Aurora for now although I really want it. Just wouldn't be smart financially right now, I can get by with something cheaper until I can afford the Aurora.

East RC can provide almost any length engine mount standoff that you want. I have the Baby Edge with the DLE-30 and I used 1" hardwood dowel cut to length and then center drilled for 10-32 bolts on my drill press. They provide a nice solid mount, and put the engine and spinner exactly where they need to be. I used Tom's measurements and marked the firewall using calipers.

How hard would it be to add a pipe tunnel on these? I just picked up one of the SYSSA 30s with an ES Composites tuned pipe. Now I just need to find a good plane to stuff it in.

It would be very easy, it's got a detachable plate on the bottom of the motor box (I can only assume it is for a can), you probably have to do some minor stuff inside the plane but it certainly could be done.

OK, I have to ask. Why put a tuned pipe in this thing with a 30 size gasser? I have a MLD 28 in mine... weighs 10lbs 3oz and has unlimited vertical at well below full throttle. What are you planning on doing that needs more? Not criticizing, I'm smiling at the thought of it... Planning on flying with a concrete block on board? I could understand a can to quiet things a bit... though the little gassers don't seem that noisy to me... but a pipe? Are you and some buddies planning on recreating the Red Bull series at your field? [8D] My only advice is to be very careful at full throttle. You could pull the wings right off the airplane with a full throttle dive and hard pull I bet.

RE: Baby Edge 540 Pics
There are several reasons I want a pipe on it. I do like to fly fast, and I know how to do it and keep the wings on. Also, the density altitude around here in the heat of the summer can be outrageous so I like the extra power to compensate for that as well. As for the mini Red Bull stuff, it may happen. We are waiting to see how they pull it off at XFC this year before we try it at our club.

if your concern is heat the ES pipes dont get hot like aluminum so you may not need one. they do need airflow though

RE: Baby Edge 540 Pics
Hello everyone, I have a wild hare baby edge (73 inch wingspan) with an os 160 on it. Just putting some finishing touches on it and was wondering if anyone could tell me where the CG is on this plane? Thanks for the info.
