    RE: WREN 54 3D Modelling

I also believe the Wren 44 Turboprop would be most impressive and interesting. I think you might be able to sell small quantities of prints for something like the Wren 44 turboprop and the Wren 54. I'd love to have something like that framed in my work shop. I could see sales being possible to technical schools, etc as well. What makes these renderings a little more interesting IMHO is the simplicity of the subject compared to say, a GE NexGen turbofan or RR RB-211 tri-spool turbofan. While those are really cool to look at and fascinating in complexity and imagery, these could be equally interesting and unique in that they are using the same principles but in a fantastically pure and more simple format.

    RE: WREN 54 3D Modelling

Well after nearly 10 months on and off I have finished the Wren 54 in 3D. I recently also invested in AutoDesk Inventor 2013 and remodelled the Wren in solids and then imported into 3D Studio Max 2013 for final texturing and mapping. Here is a final render low-res. and also a screengrab from within Invetor.

    Some stats:
    377,516 Polygons
    6 Lights
    81 Objects
    Final Render time: 11hrs 54mins 15 secs

I also have the drawings to hand for the Turboprop unit so may model that next and add it to the engine. Think it would look great with the gearbox exposed etc :-)

    RE: WREN 54 3D Modelling

Wow, simply stunning work again, as usual.

I had a chance to show a few of your images to some colleagues of mine who are professional pilots (current international airline pilots with all sorts of different and interesting aviation backgrounds) over lunch a few weeks ago. They were all amazed at the drawings, and of course surprised that micro turbines existed to the level of performance that they are at these days for the relative ease of ownership that we enjoy as well.

I have to admit I really like looking regularly at these renderings you have made. The design and apparent tolerances is so amazing in these little engines, and the way you present them is great.

Beautiful work! It reminds me of using cad systems when I worked for a major CORP. before I retired. I have many many hours of schooling In 3d rendering, LOVED IT! I have forgotten much about it.

The Wren 54 is a very nice piece of machinery I did not want to assemble mine, It only took me about thirty minutes. And am now considering getting two more for my f-14 build.

I also spent eight years in the Air Force as a jet engine specialist The J-85 being my favorite though I worked on others.

Thanks for the renderings is there any way you could put then in a single pdf for downloading? thanks again!

    RE: WREN 54 3D Modelling

Thank you to everyone who has posted compliments about my work. Icertainly enjoy 3d modelling and turbine related especially.

Thought I would share with you my most recent 3d project, in this case it's a BAE HAWK T1. It's early days, I have done the basic airframe and have just started on the UC. All the flying surfaces have an animation rig setup for future animation work etc. Once the modelling and detailing is done I have then got to spend probably way too many hours in Photoshop working on the Textures and UVW maps etc. Should be fun! Anyway enjoy what I have done so far. :-)

    Absolut fantastic...
But one thing remains: It looks like the second stage turbine wheel is wider than the original? Looks like 12mm or more?

    Thanks for the comments guys!

'ATHOME'....It must be an optical illusion.... all dimensions used are inline with specs supplied from mike Murphy @ Wren :-) and have been validated during the assembly process in Inventor pro 2013.

The only items I had artistic license with are the Turbine/s/NGV's blade inlet and outlet angles as Mike didn't want the chineese guessing to much.

    Dear Turbine Enthusiast,

This is the only artwork to be authorised by Wren Turbines Ltd., and is produced using genuine works drawings and as such can be considered a faithful reproduction of the Wren Turbines 44K Gold miniature gas turbine.

For the Geeks amongst us, this artwork has been produced using a combination of 3D Solid Cad Modelling with Autodesk Inventor 2013, with final rendering done inside of Autodesk 3D Studio Max 2013. Final post-production was done using Adobe Photoshop CS6. The CAD models produced total in excess of 1.5 million polygons.

In total in excess of 250 hours of work has gone into this production. This package contains 3 high resolution jpeg images, all @300dpi (CMYK). Each image is 7086 x 3750 pixels in size and as such is suitable for printing at high-resolution on inkjet/laser printers should you wish to produce a physical printed A4/A3/A2/A1 poster for your own personal use.

    Credits:
Many thanks to: Mike Murphy, Managing Director of Wren Turbines Ltd, who is also the designer of the Wren 44K Gold for allowing me to reproduce this great British Miniature Gas Turbine in digital form.

    Big AL and/or Ron,
I am interested in purchasing printed posters of the Wren 44K Gold to use in a class on model turbines for an Extended Learning Curriculum at the State Uiversity of New York (SUNY) this fall. I reviewed your EULA and #9 prohibits any "public presentation" of these drawings. I wonder if this restriction could be waived for my purpose. Note that I do own a Wren 44k Gold, installed in a Boomerang Nano, which I use in my presentations. Your drawings would help describe the innards of this great little model turbine. If approved I would like to purchase (pay) for the drawings thru Wren USA in lieu of funds transfer, etc.
I await your reply via PM and thanks in advance.
