Default SS tempature sensor position?

I am trying to mount my SS on a reaction 54. My question is according to the manual the temperature sensor showed be at the 3 o'clock position as viewed from the tail cone, is it OK if it and the glow plug are in a different position? Say sensor at 1 O'clock and glow plug at 8 o'clock etc? The mounting won't work in the position according to the manual.

Thanks
Mike

Default RE: SS tempature sensor position?

Mike,

I have a 54SS on my R54. Looking from the rear of the plane, the plug is at 8:00 or 9:00 and the temp probe is at about 1:00. I originally had the plug higher and had to drill a large hole in the alum mount to allow clearance, but Ron advised me that the engine would start better with the plug in the lower half of the engine case, since the propane is denser than air.

I am sure Ron will weigh in here shortly with a proper answer, but it is working great for me.

My Reaction is 20# dry and it performs beautifully with the SS.

Mike,
As Dave has pointed out, the location of the EGT sensor is not as critical as the location of the plug. Just be sure that the probe is inserted thru the tail cone at least 3/32". The ideal location for the plug would be between 3 and 5 or 8 and 10 o'clock, as the propane is slightly "heavier", and this allows the plug to "see" the gas quicker, resulting in a smoother ignition.

Hope this helps,

Ron

8 O'clock poisition worked great... Thanks for the help.

Next question, since my SS came with a 2 cell 7.4 lipo, can I use an A123 2 cell instead? Voltage should be around the same coming off the charger...
