OK, it's pressed together.
Based on info from Richard Verano I put some fairly hard urethane tubing on the adjacent nipples of the upper and lower sections and pushed a lubed screwdriver blade between them - hard at first then suddenly pops - watch out for flying parts.
Press back together with drill press or whatever using suitable packing pieces.
