YS 115S crank replace
Should I use a Warbird Special crankshaft in a standard 115-S? Will that WS crank work with the stock S piston and rod?

It would be best to direct that question to Richard Verano at YS parts and service. There are two possible differences, the crank seal ring and the counterbalance. |
Thx Speed, Ill give him a ring.

Dan,
Flying standard 115s, 3 times had digital aileron servos fail on me, in-flight during race heats, on two different Fw 190D-9 Warbird racers. I was experiencing too much vibration out toward the tips of the wings. Since Richard installed the counter-balanced crankshafts into my three 115s, I have not had the same issues. It is not cheap to have them replaced; but for me, the cost beats not being comfortable to use the engine without risking the entire airframe due to resulting structural or equipment failures -- especially in competition. Hey Thanks Ollie, did you use the standard 115s piston if I may ask? Thanks! Im getting good results with the 14x12N you suggested.

Most are using the warbird special piston. It lowers the compression a bit, but the end result is a smoother running motor that can take a bit more nitro if needed. Shoot for a 9500-10500 RPM range on fuel prop combinations.

Thank you there Jimmy!
