what 3 blad prop size????? zdz80 blue head
I have a zdz 80 in a hanger9 cap and would like to get a 3 blade prop. Any suggestions on what size I should get? The zdz 80 is the blue head 80, not sure of the exact model. Thanks

If you can get one, a 23x11 works best for me but also 24x10 or 24x12. If you have noise restrictions or limits, then the 3 blade is a good start.

RE: what 3 blad prop size????? zdz80 blue head
Are there any benefits in getting a three blade prop. I have a vess 26a and it works great but I see a lot of three blades on planes and I like the look. Will I gain proformance or loose proformance? Will I be happier with a three blade is my question? thanks

yes if you/your field is not beating on u to quieten it down of if you are not getting ready to enter an IMAC event stay with the Vess. I run the same on my DA-85; however, I run cans and a 3 blade on my IMAC plane.

I'm not sure I could say that I have experienced a performance gain when switching to a three blade prop, however, I do see some differences:
- Noise is reduced. I run three blade props and JMB cannisters on my IMAC planes and I enjoy flying them more and think I fly better because they have a quiet, pleasing sound. When I fly a plane with two blades and no cannisters it gets on my nerves a bit.
- Especially on the 40% planes, I was surprised to see little or no vertical performance drop off. These engines are so powerfull that it doesn't seem to make a difference. On the other hand, I don't know if its mental or not but it seems like I get a smoother acceleration when changing throttle.
- There might be a case to be made about differences in downline speeds between a two and three blade prop. I have actually heard it both ways- some say two blade better (bigger disc) some say three blade better (more blades to slow it down). I honestly couldn't say one was better than the other. I haven't flown a two blade in a while now.
If you go three blade I recommend the composite/fiberglass/carbon fiber type propellers like Mike recommended. I prefer the Mejzlik and ZM props (personal opinion).
