Default RCS 150 Radial

Hi.
First I´d like to thank RC Showcase and Mike Dooley for the great service regarding my purchase of this beautiful radial engine!

I have one minor and one bigger issue with the engine.

I´m running the recommended 26x16 prop for break in. 95octane gas with a good quality oil. (Castrol TTS) mixed at 30:1.
2300mAh 4-cell Ni-mh on ignition.

1:
I can´t seem to get the midrange adjusted properly. When it is running good on full throttle and the idle is good, the midrange is way too rich and it drops a sylinder.
When I adjust the needles, especially the low end needle, I can get it perfect on midrange and on full throttle, but when the needles is adjusted for optimum performance between 1500-1800 and full throttle, it is way too lean on idle and just dies when I close the throttle.
I know the prop is on the light side, and it will probably get better with more prop. But I don´t think it will be the complete cure.

2:
The last time I ran the engine, it suddenly got starved for gas. It would not run past 1/3 throttle and adjusting the needles had no effect.
The fuelfilter was nice and clean. I haven´t checked the screen in the carb yet. The ignition battery was newly charged.
What do I check?

Thanks,
Lars.

You need to pull the airpump and airline, clean it, pull the carb, clean it, and try it again.
This is part of maintenance that must be done on a regular basis.
Also, you must be sure the ignition battery is OK too.
Thanks,

Wow!
That was fast!

Thank you.
Is there a manual available on the engine?

Do you think it was the pump that messed with my idle/midrange problem too?

Thanks,
Lars.

Found the problem! The airline from the pump was not routed through the little clip, so the collector had melted a small hole in the tube.

Can´t wait to run it again!
This time with a Xoar 29x12 prop.

The engine will go in a Wildhare 35% Sukhoi.

Ran the engine last night.

With a leakfree airline and Xoar 29x12 prop, the engine performed flawlessly!!

The throttle response is just amazing.
It goes from slow idle to max rpm in an instant.
thanks again,
Lars.
