    E-flite Blade mCX S300 RTF/BNF

The Blade mCX S300 is another new product in E-flite's outstanding line of electric aircraft. It comes in a Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version that includes a 4-channel DSM2 transmitter or a Bind-N-Fly (BNF) version that allows experienced pilots to utilize their own DSM2 transmitter. This tiny helicopter offers unsurpassed stability and incredible control through its coaxial, counter-rotating head design and Spektrum' 2.4GHz DSM2' control. It can be flown almost anywhere indoors thanks to its 7.5-inch rotor span and one ounce flying weight.

The Blade mCX S300 comes 100% factory-assembled, flight-tested and ready to fly right out of the box'no assembly or setup required. Also included is a LiPo battery and battery-powered DC charger. Even the transmitter and charger batteries are included!

The DSM2 technology offers freedom from frequency restrictions and lets the Blade mCX S300 be flown with full 4-channel control that gives you the precision needed for flying in those tight spaces indoors.

Boasting the same great features as the original Blade mCX RTF, E-flite's Blade mCX Schweizer 300C' RTF is a tough little heli with a dazzling, molded scale body. It includes a set of white and black rotor blades, simulated tail rotor, tail boom and an attractive factory-applied trim scheme to help first-time pilots learn how to fly with ease, while allowing experienced heli pilots to fly anywhere, anytime.

    Specifications:

    In the Box:

The Blade mCX S300 comes well packaged and protected. The box can easily be used to safely store the Blade mCX S300 when traveling or not in use.

The flight battery (a single cell LiPo), charger, and 4 AA cells to power the charger are all included in the box for the BNF version. The RTF version also contains 4 additional AA-cells and a 4-channel DSM2 transmitter.

A 40-page manual is included that thoroughly covers setup, warnings, charging, binding, testing, and troubleshooting of the Blade S300.

Also included is a set of white and black rotor blades. Installing the Blade mCX S300's black upper blades and white lower blades give it the scale appearance of a single rotor heli while in flight.

    Assembly:

The only preparation needed to fly the S300 heli is to install the 4 AA cells into the charger, charge up the single-cell flight pack, and "bind" the transmitter to the receiver. The tiny single-cell 110mAh LiPo battery fits snuggly into the holder underneath the heli.

Binding is the process of programming the receiver to recognize the unique code of the DSM2 transmitter you are using. Note that the name of the model programmed into the transmitter adds to making the code unique so that even the proper transmitter must be on the correct model for the receiver to become operational with the transmitter. This "Model Match" feature is one of the best ideas I have ever seen for a radio system!

For the Bind-n-Fly version of the Blade S300, I used my Spektrum DX6i transmitter. Both the RTF and BNF versions require no rate change or exponential function added. I simply flew on the default settings without any experience.

For more information on binding your mCX model, check out "How To - Bind your mCX" by Jim Booker, hosted by Horizon Hobby.

    Test Flying / Summary

I made no adjustments to my transmitter other than a few trim clicks to allow it to hover in place. The control gains all seemed about right and I had no problem flying it without any heli experience. In fact, I even took these flying photos with the camera in one hand while flying the S300 using just the left stick!

The video of the Blade mCX S300 shows just how versatile this little heli really is. It can be flown in very small spaces without disturbing your pets or precious collectables. The video even demonstrates that the S300 is not hazardous to wildlife while flying outdoors. It is truly an impressive micro-flyer!

The Blade S300's 5-in-1 Control Unit is a lightweight combination of main motor electronic speed controls, mixer, gyro, servos and a Spektrum DSM2 compatible receiver. With DSM2 you never have to worry about interference from other RC users, nearby 2.4GHz devices or commercial transmission towers. There is no tuning and no channels to select. Just power up and fly''anytime, anywhere.

Along with a tail rotor that spins freely in flight, the Blade mCX S300's trim scheme gives the tail section an authentic appearance. The canopy and landing gear also feature added details to increase the heli's overall realistic looks.

When I first started using the Bind-N-Fly' products, I preferred to use my own transmitter. I later realized that I was always passing my good transmitter around for others to try. Once I tried the Ready-To-Fly (RTF) versions that include a DSM2 transmitter, I discovered that it worked just as well as my more expensive transmitter and I was no longer apprehensive to let others have a try. Whether you choose the Ready-To-Fly (RTF) version or a Bind-N-Fly (BNF) version that allows you to utilize your own DSM2 transmitter, flying the E-flite Blade mCX S300 indoors (or even outside in no wind conditions) can be enjoyed by all skill levels and almost any age.

I have the old MCX and I would highly recommend the 130mah batteries that are available for as little as $7-$8. The battery upgrade makes a big difference in flight time/power and a much quicker recovery from an emergency throttle chop to keep from hitting the ceiling in a room ;-) I don't know about the durability of the new MCX but the older model can take 8' drops to the floor and keep on going. I imagine with the new model as with the old that blade strikes are the most damaging thing and can be prevented by cutting the throttle and letting it drop before you get into real trouble. It can take the crash but not the blade strikes.
