    In the Box:

The Blade mCX Tandem Rescue comes well packaged and protected. The box can easily be used to safely store all the components when traveling or not in use.

The flight battery (a single cell LiPo), Celectra? variable rate DC charger, and AC adapter to power the charger are all included in the box. The Celectra 1-Cell 3.7 Variable Rate DC Li-Po Charger allows you to adjust the charge rate between 0.1A and 0.7A using a simple push-button interface and LED display.

A 42-page manual is included that thoroughly covers setup, warnings, charging, binding, testing, and troubleshooting of the Blade Tandem Rescue. The Tandem Rescue heli comes already bound to the transmitter but an additional information sheet is included with a few suggestions for proper power-up sequencing. Some spare servo retainers and a tiny screwdriver are also included for repairs. If you are not familiar with these E-flite mCX products, reading the manual is a great place to start!

The only preparation needed to fly the Tandem Rescue heli is to install the 4 AA cells into the transmitter and charge up the single-cell flight pack. Charge time is about 30 minutes. Although the Tandem Rescue heli comes pre-bound to the transmitter, should it ever be needed, the instructions for binding are right on the back of the transmitter.

DSM2 binding is the process of programming the receiver to recognize the unique code of the DSM2 transmitter you are using. This so-called "Model Match" feature is one of the best ideas I have ever seen for a radio system!

The tiny single-cell 250mAh LiPo battery fits snuggly into the holder underneath the heli. It can only fit one way into the guide for easy installation and removal. The four micro motors and proportional 4-channel control provide plenty of power and precision for hovering, as well as, forward or backward flight.

For more information on binding your mCX model, check out the article called "How To - Bind your mCX" by Jim Booker, hosted by Horizon Hobby.

    Test Flying / Summary

Indoor Flying the Blade mCX Tandem Rescue

I made no adjustments to my transmitter other than a few trim clicks to allow it to hover in place. I simply flew on the default settings. The control gains all seemed about right and I had no problem flying it without any heli experience. Flight times were about 8 to 9 minutes. Since it takes about 30 minutes to recharge, I would recommend buying a spare battery or two. Additional batteries and spare parts are available here at Horizon Hobby or at your local hobby shop.

The video of the Blade mCX Tandem Rescue was meant for fun. The mock construction accident used my grandson's toys and showed that the heli can be flown in very small spaces indoors. The successful "rescue" demonstrates that the heli is truly an impressive micro-flyer!

The Blade Tandem Rescue 5-in-1 Control Unit is a lightweight combination of main motor electronic speed controls, mixer, gyro, servo and a Spektrum DSM2 compatible receiver. With DSM2 you never have to worry about interference from other RC users, nearby 2.4GHz devices or commercial transmission towers. There is no tuning and no channels to select. Just power up and fly??anytime, anywhere.

The Blade mCX Tandem Rescue's body and trim scheme gives the heli an authentic appearance like the high visibility search and rescue colors of the Canadian Boeing CH-113 Labrador. The landing gear and navigation lights also help to increase the heli?s overall realistic looks.

Outdoor Flying the Blade mCX Tandem Rescue

Flying the E-flite Blade mCX Tandem Rescue indoors (or even outside in no wind conditions) can be enjoyed by all skill levels and almost any age. Even though this design uses tandem blades, it flies much like the other Blade mCX products...easy and lots of fun!
