    RCUniverse.com - EHANG Ghost Drone

    By: Geoff Barber

There's been a lot of talk about drones in the news lately, and most of it has been negative. When I talk to people about these drones, I try to redirect their thinking by removing the name 'drone' and replacing it with Quad-copter or Multi-copter. One company in particular has gone a different route, and is embracing the drone namesake. EHANG is the company, and Hobbico is distributing one of their signature models - the Ghost. The Ghost is quite different from your typical Multi-copter. It doesn't include a typical transmitter - it uses a transmitter box that is wirelessly connected to the operator's smartphone!

Why do they not include a standard transmitter? EHANG has developed a system that lets ANYONE fly their Ghost drone! There is virtually no learning curve involved. With an App downloaded to the operator's smartphone and the 'G-Box' the Ghost can be very easily flown. The G-Box can even be used in a 'follow me' mode - this means that the Ghost will follow the G-Box wherever it travels. Want to see yourself go for a run? Simply carry the G-Box, and the Ghost will follow! The G-Box also offers great range for the Ghost - with a useful range of 1000 meters (approx 3000 feet), you'll definitely be ready to go the distance.

Through the App, the operator can command the drone to lift off and hover at a given height. The App allows the operator to see and overhead map (like a GPS). By touching different areas of the map, the Ghost will fly to the specific point and hover. With a simple press of the Return icon, the Ghost will return to the G-Box's location and land. The App also allows the operator full control of the drone via a 'joystick' on the smartphone's screen!

The EHANG Ghost Aerial version includes a vibration insulated gimbal mount that fits the popular GoPro digital cameras! This drone should make an excellent aerial photography/videography platform, and is available for about half what the DJI Phantom costs! With the Ghost's inherent stability, all of your photos and videos should turn out great!

If you're still wondering which 'drone' to get - give the EHANG Ghost a try - at half the cost of a DJI Phantom with a lot of great user-friendly features, the Ghost is worth every penny. Besides being one of the only platforms that ANYONE can fly with almost no experience, this drone is backed by Hobbico - one of the best distributers in the world! Check out the video below to get a quick overview of the Ghost drone by EHANG. With point-to-point flying from your smartphone, to auto take off and land, this one has all the bells and whistles covered!
