The Black Flame 280 cc Deluxe is the Worlds finest R/C Engine period. It is designed and manufactured right here in Dayton, Mn. It is made from the finest grade materials that the US produces. All but the Cylinders and crankshaft are made from 2024 T6 Aluminum Alloy. This is Space Shuttle material. It 3 times as expensive as the 6061 alloys and a whole lot stronger. All the parts except the cylinders are CNCd to exacting tolerances. The Black Flame looks like a Rolex inside and out side, the Crank Shaft is CNCd out of the finest American made steel alloy in the world. It is hardened, and tempered, and a special finish baked on to repel oil, which gathers on the surface and creates drag. All materials along with special tolerances are designed to control expansion and contraction of the moving parts, allowing the 280 Deluxe to develop power not drag at running temperatures. The 280 Deluxe was designed with the help of a Flow Bench to reduce drag and maximize fuel flow to the cylinders. The WB 39 Twin Walbro Carburetors provide ample fuel to the cylinders, there is no need to grind and hack away at the ports to try and gain more power. It is not how big your ports are, its how they flow. The WB 39 Walbros are the largest in that design. No engine in this cc class can spend all the fuel the 39s put out except the 280 Deluxe. Its because of the flow. That is why the Carbs are angled and the Reeds are positioned only 1/32 of an inch from the spinning crank. The V-Force induction uses Motto Tassinary Delta 3 Carbon fiber reeds, It is an 8 peddle system that's needed for the super High flow the 280 can produce. Because of the design, the 280 is more efficient than the others. The crank is suspended using 3 Huge bearings. Ceramic Bearings and Titanium rods are options for the Racing crowd, along with the Alcohol Version Wb 39s. The 280 comes in 3 different configurations. First is the sport version with the the exhaust out the bottom and carbs on top, then the 3D version with the carbs and pipes out the bottom, and then the Racing version with the pipes out the top and carbs at the bottom. The 280 Deluxe can be an alky burner or gas burner. With the gas burner we use CH Syncro Spark Twin Ignitions. American made in Arizona and they are the best money can buy. I use straight Alky with a 32 /1 mix of Klotz Techniplate II, for everything, no nitro needed. With high gas prices Alky is a preferred fuel for many, it's clean and it increases power up to 25% just by using it. The 280 Deluxe hits the scales at 13.5 lbs ready to run (216 oz). The 280 uses 87 octane pump gas and has a 8.5 -1 compression ratio. The gas version puts out 30 HP, The Alky version no nitro will deliver up 40 HP. We also make a PPG, UAV and Ultralite version. We also have a custom CNCd Radial motor mount ( 7oz.) We now have a 12 volt electric starter system as an option. Each 280 is Balanced, Blue printed, and carefully hand fitted 1 at a time, here at Starr Air Craft in Dayton Mn. Because the 280 is a precision Engine, We Guarantee it forever. If you don't plant this engine or burn it up with a lean setting, we will repair it or replace it at no charge to you. You can even call and talk to the one that built your engine , we are here 24/7 for customer help. Black Flame spelled backward is SERVICE. Most of the internal parts from the Black Flame are interchangeable with the World Famous Herbrandson Engine which inspired the birth of the Black Flame 280. With 30 HP packed into a 13.5 LB engine, makes it the lightest most powerful engine in the 300 cc class In the Galaxy. The 280 Deluxe will spin a 36x12 Wooden Xoar at 6500, a 32x10 prop around 8000 RPMs, it spins a 21 x 33 pitch racing prop at around 8500 on the ground and will unload in the air to 10,000 RPM. There is no competitive engine on the planet, at this time, and it's priced about the same as an Import. Way more information is only a call away.

which version are you trying to sell? The one you have a picture of will not work in a aerobatic or 3d plane.....since the carb is on top and the exhaust is on the bottom.

Hey Misfit, Most of the the super big R/C engines 400cc or larger ( not Radials) are 2 smaller engines bolted together. The HP suffers and the engines turn into boat anchors and you gain nothing. The 280 has 30 HP and weighs 13.5 lbs, that's 2.2 Horsepower per pound. Nothing comes close. On top of that you have to add pounds to balance a heavy motor. I have considered joining 2 280s together for 60 HP at under 30 lbs....

Hey Chris, I will have a 560cc 4 cylinder B4 when I figure out the crank for 4 cylinders without bolting them together which has never worked for me. It may be too expensive to make the crankshaft in 1 piece.....But I never give up...Dick S

Hi Jarrod You came to the right place. The 280 Deluxe turns a 36x12-14pitch Xoar at around 6000-6500, producing 125 lbs of thrust, don't get much better than that. Give me a call 612 709 9630 We love to talk airplanes and engines...Dick S
