Why Selling: It works so well :-)

    Willing to Trade: No

    Item Description:

Building time is here. WE need to get those planes balanced.

I like to think of our Steel Powder as the opposite of micro balloons, although, unlike micro balloons, it actually strengthens the epoxy it is mixed with. It is actually a very fine, almost dust steel powder. The density makes it so nice for our use, and is the reason it mixes so well. It sticks well to whatever it is applied to because it is epoxy base. It 'layers' very well also as you add batches to achieve your balance.

Use 15 or 20 minute epoxy for plenty of time to thoroughly mix the batch. Keep adding the powder until the batch takes on a dull appearance and is the consistency of paste, and you have enough powder in the mix. It will still be fluid enough to pour into cowl rings, or into the nose of your fuselage. It can also be brushed on. I like to set the cowl on it's nose, pour the Steel Powder mix into the ring and let it level itself.

It can also be poured into paper form made out paper towel rolls, for instance, and then after cured, it can be sliced in a band saw or cut by hand into wafers of weight that can be attached with screws. No heat, and no dangerous fumes as with lead.

The formed batch can easily be drilled, sawed, even drilled and taped. It does not clog tools like the soft lead will.

I find that USPS flat rate shipping boxes works great for distributing Powder. I get 7lbs per box. For this I ask $17.75 per box and that includes the shipping to anywhere in the lower 48. I can ship out of the country, but the weight limit becomes 4lbs per box, and the shipping cost goes up to about $11. Please ask for an exact quote for international shipments.

The price has seen a modest increase over the last couple years but this is due to the increase in packaging and shipping.

Unfortunately, I can not combine orders to and save shipping. It needs to ship in the small USPS flat rate box for the most economical shipping cost.

Pay-pal is fine and I never add a % to those who use it. Other forms of payment are fine as well. Specify when ordering.

Please ask if I have missed anything.

Sure. You can save the shipping.

Funny thing. I ship our Powder all over the country, and even internationally, and my local fellow modelers are still using lead shot. I'd be glad to have more local guys give it a try.

Send me a PM or email and let me know when you will be at Aerotech and I will bring some and meet you. I need a couple things anyway. I only live a few blocks from there.

BTW, I fly at the Eagles and Balsa Bees. Perhaps we have flown together.

I was using some Powder on a currant build and noted that I got about 1.5 lbs in about 3 ozs of epoxy. Mix the epoxy as you normally would. When thoroughly mixed, start adding the powder till you have a pasty consistency. Most often I use either 15 or 20 minute epoxy. But for smaller quantities, you can even use 5 minute with a splash of alcohol added to the mix to slow it down a bit.

If you spill the powder, just use a magnet to pick it up. Works great.

Mosewheel, I got a duplicate offer from you in my offer section, I'm thinking this was an accident, as I only received payment for one box. You can retract the second one if this is so. Hope you enjoy using the powder, and please let me know what you think. Thanks again.

Least expensive way to ship this heavy material is the USPS flat rate box. For this reason, I can not combine shipping. 1 box for each 7lbs. I am trying to keep the price as low as I can and shipping any other way would dramatically increase the price.

Local buyers can save the shipping costs. Use my contact info and we can make arrangements.

It appears I have solved some of the shipping problems I have had in the past with extra tape on the boxes and more careful loading of the bags. Seems that if any of the material became visible on the package, it looked suspicious and the shipment was stopped, with no notice to me, I might add. Not cool.

Still, if I have let you know your box is on the way, and you don't receive it in 2 to 3 days, please let me know. I don't do confirmations (which adds tracking), insurance, or any other up charges to keep the shipping cost down. If any of you want any of this, let me know and will add it to the cost, otherwise, if there is a problem, all I can do is send out another box, which I have had to do, sometimes more than once. Thank you all, and I wish you the best with all your builds.

BTW, don't be concerned with the count on available units left. I just put an arbitrary number in the ad when I placed it. We have an ongoing supply of the material, and will continue to run this ad and make this stuff available, and keep the price as low as possible, as long as you builders have an interest in it. Increases we have had to date are from shipping and packaging increases, not from material increases.

Thank you all for keeping it going.

While I was at the post office today, I got the latest on the postal increase. Here is the deal. Jan. 27th, the rate on this small flat rate box goes up 45 cents. Seams like a big jump, but they will now also be including tracking at no additional charge on these boxes, before a .75 extra.

So, beginning the 27th of this month, I will be able to include tracking, but The new price will need to be $18.20 / box.

Any orders before the 25th of this month will still go at the $17.75 price.

I'm not glad to see the increase, but tracking is definitely a good thing.

Oh, I meant to post this reminder as well. If you should spill the powder, remember, it is steel. You can pick it all back up with a magnet. No need to waste any.

Can't do that with micro balloons. :-)
