Default Newbie Thinking of getting a Traxxas Erevo 1/16 but open to suggestions

Wanna take my stepson to an RC track and have fun. I bought him a Dromida DB4.18 and upgraded the shocks and dogbones, pinion, driveshaft, etc.
I want to get a RC car for around $300 and upgrade the shocks and A-arms, driveshaft, gears, etc....

Would the Traxxas E-Revo be good for this? The one I am looking at is capable of 50mph with the extra battery. I am looking for the most bang for the buck in this price area. Am I on the right one? Or should I be looking at other cars?
The track we are going to is a dirt track.

Any suggestions?

An E Revo is extremely unsteady around corners at a track and he will have a hard time keeping it under control. Speed isn't necessarily the most important aspect of a car. I'd look at something 1/10th scale. Everything below is a good choice.

Thank you for your reply. I am looking at the suggested trucks now. Why is the E-Revo so bad around the corners? I thought the 4wd would help in those regards.

It tips WAY too easily, even at a very low throttle. 4WD doesn't do anything for turning, except if you enjoy kicking out the back end for turns on an offroad course, but thats a very fine art. Lol. You also need batteries for some of these trucks. I've got some battery and charger suggestions down below if the truck you like doesn't come with one. I suggest getting a good charger, no matter what. The ones included in these take anywhere from 4-10 hours to charge a pack. The ones below can in roughly 20-40 minutes.

the e-revo need quite a bit of work to make it stable.

Basically you need new rims & tires, replace the springs on the shocks, and shock fluid just for starters. If you don't replace the springs, and shocks when you turn it does what I seen someone describe as the peeing dog when you turn where 3 wheels go low, and one wheel lifts off the ground.

You also would probably need the brace set as the plastic that holds the front and rear bulkheads on is almost paper thin(well more like the thickness of the cardboard on the back of a notebook)
It also has a high COG so its more flippy on turns.

Also with the BL motor setup its very hard to control partially cause it has too much motor for a vehicle its size, and weight the rear spoiler more acts like a wheelie bar, and gets really damaged.

I ended up making mine brushed so I could control it. Batteries that fit it are also a somewhat issue as the mah rating of the packs is pretty limited due to the battery location.

I'd agree going 1/10th even a 1/10th scale buggy as the e-revo is almost the same size as a 1/10th scale buggy. For being almost the same size as a 1/10th it has none of the benefits the 1/10th, but all the drawbacks of a 1/18th(like small batteries)

Well I got a really good deal on an e-revo. New shocks, tie rods, a-arms, tires, axles, ball joints and skid plate, along with 2 lipo batteries. 70mph car for $300

Gonna buy a sway bar kit, heat sink, shock towers, drive shafts, differentials, pinion, wheelie bar and gyro for it.

My kid has a Dromida DB4.18 (that is headed back to the factory, steering wont work) and I want him and I to have fun at some RC tracks here in Dallas.
