Default Car Selection....Help me out

I was wondering what micro to get. Xray, Mini-z, xmod, mini-t, the list goes on and on and on!
I want one with lots of upgrades for $150 or lower. Thanks.

Since the Mini-T and most of the Mini-Z's start at $149 new "without" upgrades, you've already eliminated them from your selection choice. And according to the following site, the XRAY M18 kit is almost $100.00: http://www.serpent-usa.com/xray/xranew_1.html That leaves you with $50 for upgrades. Quite frankly, it appears you want a $50 xmod. Then you can dump another $100 into to it so it will go faster than the stock 6 mph.

Get the xmod. I just bought my 2nd RSX and i loove it. bye the way Beter go ahead and get rechargeble batts and if you plan on running a mod motor tighten up the suspension with all the suspension upgrades as it wont handle well at top speed with a stage 2 motor.

Mini T out of the box with just 4 AA's is better than the X-Mod then you can save get the 6 cell pack and a good charger and you'll be set for a time. I have 2 X-Mods and the Mini T I have not touched the X-Mods (both with all Radio Shack upgrades available) since I got the Mini T with just the 6 cell pack.[8D]

Get a Mini T, seriously. Xmods are fun but I've had a very dissapointing returns with mine. The quality control in Ratshack has much to be desired. Another thing is that the rear right wheel hangs a bit lower due to a bad mold in the factory (suspension arm is a little off) and the materials are really cheaply made. It can take a beating sure but if you want a real r/c, its not for you. I got one as a starter r/c and i was dissapointed with its performance and the fact that i bought a few hopups (charger and awd) and realized that I had paid more then a stock Mini z and it would still not be as nice quality or well made or as fast as a z. Lots of people like them. If your good with electronics you can put a spin brush motor in (extra torque, and a 5th battery cell and some fets) but I cant see the base design as good enough to consider putting so much work into it. Maybe if the arts weren't made out of nylon or if there was aluminum parts available. Lots of people like them, I'm not one of them.

Get what will fit your area...I ordered a T in a coin toss between that and a Mini Z overland, so I'm pretty excited for it to come.

Thanks,
-Alex

Mini-Z Overland! The best dang mini around for scale looks and has good performance too.
Can be had on eBay for around $100 and tons of hop-ups available.
Had mine for a while now and love rock crawling with it. Replaced the stock body with a custom fit jeep body, swamper tires, off-set dish wheels, long shock suspension lift, alloy shock mounts, alloy battery clips and motor heat sink, bearings, alloy front knuckles, clear chassis and front servo case.

[]I know that all this I like this and I like that from everybody and there mother just leaves you in the same place you started and gets a bit confussing. So I will lay it on the line and tell you how it is. I will confuse you just like everybody else! I bought two of my sons X MODS for x mas and I got a mini t that I run around and over the top of them with. Comparing the two is like comparing a hot wheel with a Savage. No comparison. So what ever you get just say screw it and have a good time.[8D]

in turns the x-ray has the edge but top speed seems to go to the micro. the x-ray's run time is a little longer to the free drive train. and the x-ray handles better stock vs stock. the x-ray is a kit no electronics for $100, electronics(decent ones) would run about another $100. and that dosen't even count the batteries and cjarger cost. used hoped up micros go for around $150ish on some forums. with a firm $150 budget, the x-mod is really your only bet. i do have mini-t just don't ask[:@]

Where do you shop? I'd like to find a new "decent" servo, receiver and ESC that I can put in my Xray M18 all totaling $100.00, which will work with my Futaba T3PK. Models, prices and links would be helpful. The metal geared servo I slapped in my Mini-T cost $65.00 with tax and was cheaper than the online prices I checked out because of the shipping.

Thanks in advance for providing the requested information regarding the electronics.

i guess it would be more if you were shopping for a tx/rx.
speed controll ipd $50 shipped http://www.ipdraceshop.com/

hitec hs85mg $32 servocity http://servocity.com/html/hs-85mg__mighty_micro.html

rx i haven't found much. want the xxl they sell for $49-65 at tower: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...xl&FVPROFIL=++

but the sales forum at one18 is pretty good.
i picked up a quantum micro esc, K3 bb 300, set soft rubber hpi tires, hpi 11tooth pinion, and losi thrust bearing for $80 shipped.

The servo you listed at Servocity is not in stock and a price comparison with the HS-5125MG that I installed in my Mini-T is only $2.00 cheaper at Servocity than what I paid locally "if" there are no other charges, such as shipping. I do have a HiTec HS-225MG that I could probably install in the Xray but I have not really thought about it since I am still debating the motor issue.

The "Electronics" portion of one18th shows "coming soon."
http://www.one18th.com/parts.php#

I also noticed a lot of "???" marks under the price column on the "Option Parts" page.
http://www.one18th.com/Partslist.php

Maybe the owners are upgrading the site or changing the prices.

I have yet to go through IPD Race Shop, but will soon. Thanks for the link.

i am not sure. of the parts their for the m-18. he sold out all of his dyno-ed 300 motors. everyone is short on 300 sized motors. but unitedrc.com carries some 300 motor mounts. penguin rc has a cf chassis and 400 mount going into testing this week.(m-18)

but servo city offers free shipping on all orders. followed your links and that is to a old part of the site wich needs to be updated. here ia brushless powered m-18. go to gallery and reader rides. http://www.one18th.com/showtoy.php?id=1455

and servo city also carries the hitec shredder rx.

New mounts, new motors.... My brain is telling me to wait and see then purchase and install, but my trigger figure is itching to get that M18 running.

The HobbyTowns must be behind times here because I called two of them about micro and mini parts for the M18. "What's that?" "We don't stock parts that small." The problem is that I know they have some micro and mini parts even if they don't have the M18. I'll just have to visit one of the stores in person or wait until someone I know returns to work at the other store. I've had the same problems at HobbyPeople. I guess good help is just difficult to find and keep. I'll probably just have the LHS where I purchased the M18 order parts after I figure out whether it's going to be brushless or not. Last night I began working on the body.

Nice body. Are you attending RCX this April? The Kyosho Mini-Z nationals will be held there as well.
