Vulcan Mini Nitro Buggy - My Latest Mini
After the off-road races in Boulder City, Nevada today, I stopped by a new hobby store and what did I find--or rather what did I purchase, but another mini buggy. However, this one is NITRO. It's the one in the middle if you can't tell from the pull start.

It was expensive enough as is without the bling--$299. Regarding the two speed, I'm not sure if I'll get one since if I really want to drive a fast mini buggy, I'll get out my brushless KMI. If a racing class was formed here and 2-speeds were allowed, then I would consider it. One of the websites I saw did have the "standard" at $279 and the "SE" at $369 as a pre-order.

No, not yet. One guy did purchase one right before I did and the owner of the LHS ran it outside in the parking lot. It was running rich but it seemed to have some get up and go. The instructions say to run 10 tanks as break in--it's a good thing that they are "mini" tanks. Another guy wanted to purchase one after I did, but I purchased the last one in stock. The LHS sold 10, but should get more in this coming week. I don't know about any place else, but this was at a new small independent hobby shop in a small town--about 20 miles from here being the city. Based on that I'd say the Vulcans are moving rather quickly. I could just imagine how fast they would move in a high-traffic high-volume area. This mini may just help bridge the gap between the larger nitro crowd and the smaller mini crowd--until a battle begins regarding nitro versus brushless. LOL.

I do like the SE, can you get all the upgrade parts the SE has for the regular vulcan? Better add that to the want list .

cadillac,
The SE option parts are mostly red bling with the addition of a alumiminum pipe and header. To me, bling is a catch-22 if it doesn't really help the performance, but I was informed that I could get the bling. Quite frankly, the plastic reminds me a lot of the KMI and I have beat the heck out of my brushless KMI with very little problems. If it is in fact built like the KMI, it should hold up without the bling. After all, I don't have all that red bling on my 1/8th scale buggies.
bigmike,
That's why I wrote the original post the way I did, mentioning the pull start.
ABU,
It is a cooling head for the stock KMI electronics.

Is there any micro racing in Vegas, either carpet or dirt?

Finishline, one of the local off-road tracks is also going to add a mini-offroad track. I'm also assuming that is because the owner realizes more and more racers are purchasing micros and minis since they are bringing them to the local off-road races. Right now, I usually just run on their 1/8th scale track during practice like more and more people. Basically, a lot of people were amazed at how fast my brushless KMI is and are starting to pick up minis. It also doesn't help when LHS try to push Duratrax and offer little Kyosho support--However, the new hobby store also carries Kyosho, Mugen, Cen, etc and will order parts where some won't since they appear to catter to Hobbico.

Tigger, can the chassis from the Vulcan be used with the Half8? They look pretty similar in design and even the arms and stuff look alike....Is the Vulcan the same base platform as the KMI? Looks cool, I really like the look of these mini nitros.

And I found one for what I think looks like a screamin deal. So, unlike mayhem kid, I'm gonna let everybody know:P

RE: Vulcan Mini Nitro Buggy - My Latest Mini
I will probably get my LHS to order in a Vulcan SE so my parents can get me one for my b-day. The owner of my LHS isn't totally sold on the mini nitros though, he wants to see whether or not they're reliable/headache free. TNB, tell me how the engine is as far as performance, reliability, any hassles. Need to get one!
