Default VW Beetle/Baja Buggy, 1/18

Seems like Losi has discontinued the Baja Buggy VW Beetle looking body, but does anyone know of a store that has one in stock or another VW Beetle body for a 1/18th scale mini? My daughter loves Herbie and I'd love to find a clear shell and paint it up to look like the original Herbie.

Thanks
Zak

Losi got in big trouble over the vw bodies, because they didnt have permission to make them. There is a company that does make them and i will try to find it and put within this thread.

Go to ebay and punch in item # 200161236788

Then go to the store, you will find all sorts of cool bodies, including vw bug, baja, and the vw bus.

Thank you for the link. I just bought the VW Baja beetle. $15 shipped from the UK is a great price. Thanks again, and my daughter will be THRILLED. Now to find some good decals.

That's one of the funniest, most told, rumors that's managed to hang around for like 20 years now.

Losi didn't get in trouble, they didn't call them VWs, they didn't rob any copyrights making them, they just found the bug bodies weren't selling as well as was hoped and like anything decided to discontue the item.

If every company that makes a sorta-looks-like-it body out there ran into legal troubles we'd all be running blob bodies.

Then explain why did HPI and Parma also stop making them?

Since Volkswagon long long ago sold the manufacturing rights, as well as the image, design and concept to the Mexican Goventment they haven't had any claims to the actual Beetle itself for like 30-something years. And since the Beetle itself is no longer in production literally nobody owns the rights to it.

And on top of that the BajaBug is not a true Beetle anyway, it's a Baja conversion that dozens of companies made kits and complete body kits for back in the 70s.

The only way an automobile manufacturer has any "legal claim" towards anything RC is when a company uses their name and/or logo in conjunction with a product. Associated's Kamino 18R body is a clear rip-off of a Subaru, there are several companies that make other so-called copycat ripoffs and none of them are getting sued either.

It used to be that almost all the RC body manufacturers used to make copies of cars and call them by name, but when the 1;1 manufacturers started asking for money for the use of the name of the car (Mustang, Barracuda, Chevrolet, Camaro, whatever) the body manufacturers just stopped using the names themselves. But the practice continues liberally today.
