RE: best castle esc
its limited on the motors you can use... i wouldnt trust it with a ammo or neu motor..
look at it as an investment.. so if you ever want to upgrade to 10th scale you can,, or if you ever want to get a vendetta or mini inferno or a mini e-revo.. you already have the esc you need..

Towerhobbies has it for $77
Stormerhobbies has it for $70
You could probably find a coupon code on Towerhobbies. Great ESC and yeah, as Jae said, it is a great investment.
It can also run brushed motors with reverse lockout as well.

The Mamba Micro Pro
4-12 NiCd/NiMH, 2-3 cell LiPo
Handles Up To 380 Motor
Size: 1.2 x 1.5 x 0.65" (30x38x19mm)
Weight: 0.9oz (24.5g)
The 1/10th Sidewinder
4-12 NiCd/NiMH, 2-3 cell LiPo
Handles Up To 550 Motor
Size: 1.8L x 1.4W x 0.9H (45.7 x 35 x 23mm)
Weight: 2.2oz (62.4g)
Only thing that the Micro Pro offers over the Sidewinder is a smaller footprint and weight. The Mamba Micro Pro was designed for Mini Motors. It won't work great with 1/10 scale. The Sidewinder Sport was designed for 1/10 scale and it is great with Mini Motors. The Mamba Micro Pro is a good ESC no doubt but the Sidewinder would be my preferred ESC

I personally would go with the micro sidewinder. I use mine for 1/10 scale but not 550 can size. I use it on up to 480 can size motors with no issues. I would say the price tag of the 1/10 is double of the micro sidewinder? If not more. I see castle lists them for 169.99.....Geez...for a mini? And it is huge in comparison to any other mini esc that I have ever seen. 2.2 ozs is nothing to bat an eye at either. Hell my mini's weigh in at around 16-18 ozs. That is 1/8 of the total car weight. IMO that is nuts.
To each his own,
Kevin

RE: best castle esc
you're going to have a hard time fitting a 1/10 sidewinder in that pro-pulse. especially if you are running that 1/10 servo at the same time! i think you would be happy with the 1/18 sidewinder or the micro pro. the sidewinder will fit with no problems. i run the bejesus out of mine with very acceptable temps. the mamba 25 is older technology. my $0.02 fwiw

Depends on your needs. For 1/18th on road, I'd get a micro sidewinder. Just like Mr. Mugen said, weight makes a big difference in a car so light. Plus, you don't really need crazy motors for on road... even the new detta tc is super fast with a 20mm motor.
For heavier trucks like the detta st, I can see why people buy the sidewinders. Room isn't an issue, and the ability to upgrade to 1/10th scale is totally valid. The extra amp handling capabilities are also nice if you're using a powerful motor. And the 1/10th sidewinder only costs a few more dollars than a mamba micro pro. btw... Mr Mugen, the 1/10th sidewinder can be had for $70-80 (depending on where you buy), you must be thinking about "suggested retail" price or something else.
As for the Mamba micro pro.... its the same esc as the micro sidewinder + a case & heatsink. Both can handle 30+ amps continuous, so I don't see a reason to buy a mmp. I don't like the case anyways, and I can add my own heatsink for less.

RE: best castle esc
How would the ammo 25-35 3900kv motor go with the 1/10 sidewinder sport esc? I have a mamba 5400kv and the 25 esc. With that set up i have now it cogs like crazy.

RE: best castle esc
It would be fine.
and btw... if your current combo is cogging, you need to adjust your esc's setting or get better batteries. Moving up to a more powerful motor without addressing your current batteries will only make the problem worse.

RE: best castle esc
well i can get a micro sidewinder for $50 or a 1/10 sidewinder ofr $45...
If you can get the 1/10th sidewinder for $45, then get it asap. If you don't want it, I'll buy it.

RE: best castle esc
rschoi_75 Yes I got that price from CC's site. Didn't know they were that far off...wow. I run my 1/10 stampede on 4s all day with no heat build up in the esc what so ever. No cooling fan no nada. Just geared right and not pulling mad amps. I don't see why the micro sidewinder would not perform as well in the dettas and KMI's? In fact my KMI has the micro in it now as I type this. Testing neu motors in it with that esc and still no heat. Just making a plus side for the micro. Gotta love such a powerful small package. It fits anywhere.
No doubt the 1/10 is a higher rated esc and kick butt but like castle said....100 amps will not fry it in under 30 seconds. (the micro that is)

RE: best castle esc
Right I understnad. But to put a 2 oz esc in a small car is crazy.....just my opinion. Not sure how many others are like myself but if I bought a 1/10 car/truck I would buy a 1/10 esc....same goes for the mini's. I hate swapping electronics so each car gets their own. Just my take on it. Of course the up side is heavier = better traction...
