Companion for my savage xs
What do you guys recommend as a bash buddy for my savage? It needs to be fast enough to keep up as well as durable. My price range is about 300 for a used rtr. A size close to it would be ideal but not necessary.
I've been looking at the merv, summit, pede 4x4, axial exo, himoto katana, and the mini8ight if I can get it ready for bashing. Edit: is there another mini truck that accepts 1/10th scale electronics? Thanks! |
RE: Companion for my savage xs
Well the Summit, Pede 4x4, Exo terra, are much larger than the XS. The XS is in between a 1/16 Merv and a 1/10th Rustler in size. The Mini 8ight, (if it's close to the Losi 1/16th Mini SCT) it will be much smaller. I had a Mini SCT and it was much smaller than my Merv and had very low ground clearance, that along with it being 2wd made it pretty much useless compared to my needs. It also ran a 2040 size brushless motor which didn't have much power and the Mini 8ight shares the same ESC and motor.
You can put 1/10th electronics in the Merv with the Tenbol motor mount, but I find that the stock electronics package is pretty impressive. The only drawback putting 1/10th electrics in the Merv is it is a little cramped for space mounting the ESC but it can and has been done. Also Hot Racing makes full steel gears for the transmission to improve durability. I have a Sidewinder 4600 (older 2 pole motor) combo in my XS and the Merv is slightly faster. I have the 4600 geared low though to prevent overheating and the same with my Merv. I run in short grass as well and the Merv does just fine in it. |

Thanks for your reply!
Is your merv running 2s lipo in series to reach the xs speeds? I have a Hobbywing 4700kv on the way for my savage so the Merv needs to be a close contender. How is the Merv at jumps and climbs? I have a few construction yards that has dirt mounds and would love to scale it on the mound. There are tons of bulldozer tire marks on the dried dirt. Will the merv's suspension handle it? Is there a way to keep the 1/16 summit's suspension but have the Merv's speed? Thanks in advance! |

RE: Companion for my savage xs
Awesome! I think I'm going for it. Is the conversion simply the motor mount? Is the crt.5 the same as the Hyper 12t?
Is it necessary to buy the $84 nitro to bl conversion kit? Will the extended chassis kit keep it under 1/10? Also, what bodies is compatible with the .5? |
RE: Companion for my savage xs
you mean this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Electric-Con...item2a21901eff? im sure it would save you some trouble but i think it would cost you more then just buying the mount and a battery tray the extended chassis just makes to so it can fit a 1/10th size servo its only like half a inch or so longer not realy that much no the hyper 10tt is its own thing but if you didnt want to monkey with a conversion im sure its strong most if not all things from ofna are </p> |

I meant the [link=http://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/cml_product.php?productId=0000003394]Hobao Hyper12t[/link] I believe Hobao is the same as OFNA.
There used to be a brushless roller on ebay but I cannot find it anymore. Now I'm in a bind between the crt.5 and the merv. I like the fact that the Merv has an abundant supply of parts available, but the crt.5 has a great feel to it. I also feel as though its handling is better, plus it's a tad bigger. Thanks for all your help, guys! |
