Sidewinder vs. Mamba Micro Pro
 

Tower has both of them in stock now, but has no info on Pro. Neither does Castle website. Anyone knows anything about the Pro? Is it just a sidewinder with a heatsink and a case? Does it have higher amp rating? I'm about to get one of them and even thou the price diff is not big, I want to know how is Pro better. Also, I'm torn between getting the 6800 or the 8000 motor but will prolly go with the 6800

Someone on another forum just got the Pro. Its a little smaller than the sidewinder with a case and heatsink. Not sure what else is different. The castle guys say it has more options though.

i would guess it would be more features as well as handle more amperage, as the sidewinder is to the mamba max. as for motors, i have the 8000 (mamba 25 esc) and on 6 cells its pretty darn fast. it kind of depends what you're doing. unless you're looking for speed runs, i think the 6800 would be better for a shorter track. for an extra $20 it might be worth while to go to the pro. with the discount its really only like a 10 dollar difference.

what will you be doing with the truck by the way?

oh yeah and i've heard castles customer service is awesome, so you could always call or e-mail and i'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions.

not much of a difference, only handles 30 amps compare to the orignal which handles 25 amps, and the 6800kv is perfect with 6 cell, I get blistering speeds with mine

I have no plans of racing the truck. it's gona be mainly for backyard bashing which is part dirt and part paved. I'm currently running on 6 cells and have no plans on going lipo in the immediate future. Maybe after i get tired of it I'll go lipo to make things interesting again. Another choice would be to wait on Novak Mongoose, but I dont know when they'll release it for sure. I e-mailed both castle and novak few weeks ago and haven't gotten a response yet.

i think you'll be plenty happy with the sidewinder. the pro will just have a little more power potential. And for bashing on a track, i think the 6800 would be good for you. like i same my mamba 25/8000kv run pretty fast on 6 cells. i've noticed with the dtx battery i'm running it has a little trouble supplying enough amps to really launch the truck at full power, so just make sure you get good batteries, you may even find you'll want a 2s lipo for it, they're not too expensive for the minis.

I have had no problem with start off power using 6 cell nimh, you just need to set the starting power on your esc to normal instead of low

I was told by a Castle Rep at the Toledo RC show that the Mamba Micro Pro was the same controller as the Sidewinder, but because of the case and heatsink it could handle more amperage.

I don't have any personal experience with either, but that is what I was told.

I would get one even if its the same as a sidewinder(mamba25). Because of the heat sink now it can take 30A so thats good, even better if you just run lower amps for longer cooler runs. Come to think of it my Mamba never really got to hot anyway. Oh well, I still like the heat sink[8D]

The problem is with that, is the case is smaller (in length, in width it slightly longer) than the sidewinder. So it cant be the same circuit board.

Does the Mamba Micro Pro have the built in USB port like the Mamba Max?

Not entirely true. The new sidewinders handle more than 25 amps continuous, while the new pro is speculated to handle up to 35 amps, but no proof of that yeat. They can run the larger Vendetta sized motors with ease.

Mine is on the way, for 20 dollars difference I'd rather have a setup that can stand up to my batteries and motor combo, it will run cooler and slightly smoother than the sidewinder..... (the pro)

Documentation with the Mamba micro pro does not give specs on current capabilities. I googled and Joe Ford of Castle said on another forum that they handle 35 amps continuous.

yea, I'm pretty sure it would. The case feels like its been glued pretty well, so I'm not gonna bother right now to open it. With my luck, I'd break something on the esc while decasing it.

Yea man, sorry I couldn't be of any help. I haven't really had the chance to test it out yet, so I wouldn't wanna risk breaking it before I actually used it :)
