RE: OFFICIAL MINI E-REVO THREAD!!!

I've been running six of [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAXXAS-1-16-E-REVO-14-4V-50MPH-BATTERIES-50MPH-NEW_W0QQitemZ360196437090QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio_ Control_Parts_Accessories?hash=item53dd617462]these batteries[/link] since late June/early July and just recently one of the batteries seems "shot." I have charged them using [link=http://cgi.ebay.com/DYNAMITE-DYN4056-PROPHET-SPORT-BATTERY-CHARGER-REVO_W0QQitemZ390071916642QQcmdZViewItemQQptZRadio _Control_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5ad2191862]this charger[/link] using 2 amps (as instructed) and 1 amp for trickle charging at times (about 1/2-1 hour). I have used that charger for my 5-cell hump packs for my Savages for over a year and never had a problem.

I charged the battery twice at 1amp and it seems to have gotten a little better on the second charge but it is still VERY weak compared to the other batteries. Would a few cycles of discharge/charge fix the problem or is it something else?

Any help would be great.

You should be charging them at 1amp. 2 is a little high but shouldnt hurt your batterys. A good rule of thumb is go by the mAh.

IE: 1600mAh - 1.6 amps
2000mAh - 2.0 amps
4200mAh - 4.2 amps

Keep charging them at 1amp and see what happens. Are you letting them cool down before you use them and after you charge them?

+1

The general rule is to charge at 1/10th C, and no more for long battery life. At 1600mAh, the most those batteries should be charged at is 1.6 amps (1/10th C), 2 amps is too high for longevity. If you can, a deep discharge, and then recharge, both at at .8 amps (.5C) might cycle them back to health. Good luck!

If you are running NIMH batteries, you need the best cells you can get. Go here and have them build you a set of the Elite 2/3A 1500mah packs.
http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/?me...D738&sid=15793

I did the custom pack cost analysis for you and it is $18.00 per 6 cell pack. With 12awg wire and traxxas plug. And they are awesome cells. I have had them before. Their customer service is EXCELLENT!

RE: OFFICIAL MINI E-REVO THREAD!!!

I just bought one of these from the LHS on Saturday. I have a Revo 3.3 that I run as a basher, but I wanted somethingthat I could use during the winter (and something I could run in my apartment complex without bugging the neighbors.) Unfortunately, Igot all of about 20 minutes of running before I managed to break one of the front suspension arms and put it out of commission. Granted, I was probably going a bit overboard with it (jumping a curb) but it's still a bit of a pain.Fortunately, the LHS has the part in stockso I can fix it tonight and get it back up and running. It did take me a bit of head-scratching to figure out how to get the front body / bumpermount off to get at the hinge pin for the A-arm. On the Revo 3.3justa single screw holding the whole assembly on, but apparently on the VXL there are a couple more screws to deal with, and it took me a bit of time to determine that.

Ironically enough, the right front upper suspension arm was the first thing I managed to break on my Revo 3.3 as well...

Also, what is a recommended suspension setup (springs / shockoil) for these? The out-of-the-box tuning seems too soft for my liking..

Im a hardcore basher. Im running NewEra alum shock set, black springs all around, and 80wt oil F/R. I love this set up!

RE: OFFICIAL MINI E-REVO THREAD!!!

The guy that I purchased them from stated that he only chooses the best cells to build his batteries (he compared them to Team Orion cells IIRC), so I would assume that with 20+ years of doing it, he should be telling the truth? The guy told me that I should charge them at 2.2amps when I purchased them...I usually charged them at 1amp but sometimes I just did them at 2amps to speed it up a little. [>:]

Is there any way to discharge the battery without a dis-charger? Can I just leave it on in the truck with the remote on as well? (I have rechargeable batteries in there too, so that wouldn't bother me.)

And I am very anal about letting them cool down after charging and after running them. I will leave the batteries with nothing around them to cool for a little bit.

Another thought...I am running those batteries in series with the STOCK pinion. I monitor the temps of the ESC and motor and they are well under their range, but can the batteries be harmed in any way by using the stock pinion?

If you need a cheap discharger, build you one of these.

I've heard of doing that, but isn't it bad if it gets discharged too much?

just watch it and stop it before the bulbs go real dim

Exactly, also watch the temp of the batteries. Don't worry, it won't take long to drain them this way

Would my original idea of leaving the car on work as well?

Wheelnut 10-13-2009 09:31 PM

RE: OFFICIAL MINI E-REVO THREAD!!!

Not near as fast. Just leaving the car on would take a long time and you won't be there to make sure you don't kill the battery

What happened to discharging batteries by driving them in your mini e-revo?

Hmm when i get done driving i put the pack on my charger to cycle. It only discharges like a few seconds before it starts to charge. What should the volts be when discharged?

Thats so last year :)

If you go to a hardware store and get a 12V trailer light assambley you can used that. You can soider up deans/traxxas end to it too make it easyer to discharge ur batterys.

Here's a video of my Mini E-Revo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zj9xHiyegN0

I believe all of this was with the Neu 1107/1.5D 8500KV motor. I had the 1/10th scale Sidewinder ESC programed for the absoulte lowest power setting, lowest start up power, and 70% punch control, all on a single 2S.

I don't know what you guys think, but that last jump must be at least 10'.

Anyone seen this new charger from Losi? Looks an awful lot like the Turnigy charger from Hobbycity, less the fan on the face of it.

holy crap squeaky, that's a nice truck and some nice driving. You have to give me everything about you setup: What shocks, tires radio, batteries, and other extras like tie rods, diffs etc.

Stock Radio
Completly stock front shocks (oil, springs)
Rear shocks have Traxxas alluminum bodies and 50wt oil
Stock diffs - fluid

Now the things that make the biggest difference:

TIRES! TIRES! TIRES! The only thing the stock tires are good for are ruining on the street! I run Rear Buggy Proline Bowties on Kyosho Rims.
1/10th scale sidewinder ESC - the stock ESC is also complete junk!

Now, I was running my buddies NEU 1107/1.5D 8500KV motor (which he sold), but quite honestly, the stock motor with the ESC set for full power is not much different then the NEU with the ESC at the absoulte lowest setting. I believe I was running a 26t pinion throughout that video.

That was all on a single 2S lipo also. I have a couple Flightmax 1800mah, a Flightmax 2200mah, a Rhino 1750mah, and a Turnigy 1600mah. I feel there is absoultly no need for 3S or even running 2S in parallel.

And I believe that's it for upgrades. Now, if I could find out how to quit braking arms, I could get some more good videos up - I found a great place to bash with some even bigger jumps!

MuggyDude 10-16-2009 03:12 PM

RE: OFFICIAL MINI E-REVO THREAD!!!

I need to get a 2s lipo, it's too slow with parallel 6 cells. I have the rear buggy wheels and goosebumps. Plus a bunch of other stuff/ You're really a nice driver, but I think that the nue and cc esc really help. Might have to throw in my mm.
