Getting back in the 1/2a game (cloud ranger)
Hello group. It's been a while since I've been around here. I had moved to Texas in a home with no room or yard. I've moved out to the country now and built a shop.
I see a number of familiar guys here and look forward to exchanging ideas. I've picked up a few MP jets and norvels to get me going. I figured I'd start easy and purchased
a Herr cloud ranger. I fired up a norvel today and it sounded like music to my ears.

MaxPower has a Cloud Ranger with a TT .07 on it that he's brought out to the field a few times. What a beautiful flying plane. Nice, gentle. Might have to build one myself.

applied some polycrylic for fuel proofing but I'm not sure if it is any good for that purpose. I didn't concern myself with a nice cover job as this will be a fly plane and not
a show plane. I'll save the decent jobs for the LST, DNU, Das Wunder, and Blink I plan on doing next. I'll get all those prereq. planes done and then explore some other things
common here.

I'm new to diesel but these mp-jets look really great. I fired it off today and It really did well after only 20 min run time. The installation will require a muffler extension which I'm having a hard
time finding. Flight report will be held up by this item as all I need to do is throw in the electronics now.

flyinrog....great find on the ranger. It's a real easy build. I'm thinking the MP Jet is going to be the perfect match but others are reporting that norvels and thunder tigers are doing well also.
Littlerock.......CEI sure did have the extensions..thanks for the heads up.

Finished up the ranger today. Just waiting on the exhaust extension from Carlson and a y-harness. While I had some free time I picked up a OS 10la from the LHS and threw it on the test stand.
Those little engines run very very nice. Not a powerhouse but extremely friendly. I need to find something that is a good fit for it. With only 4 oz. fuel run in it, I'm confident to put it in a plane.
Transition and idle are very good. After that I put the DNU into google sketchup and made some cut files for my little cnc machine. It's only a 12 x 12 machine but a good value and I just puzzle
that pieces together that are too large. It's worth a look at: http://www.microcarve.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=55

Carlson Engine Imports may have the exhaust extension you are looking for.

If Carlson can't get them or won't order from the factory, David Owen is the go-to guy for these engines and whatever parts you will need. I'd recommend a spinner nut, the machined 30mm aluminum spinner, and a few needles. Diesels tend to last a really long time as the bearings don't go bad so you'll probably crash it before you wear out the liner. Crashes mean bent needles, so make sure you pick up a few. If this is your first diesel, get a few rods for it as well-they are cheap now, could be priceless in 10 years if you like the engine and MP Jet stops making them again.

Dave,
Coming to SMALL this year?
Dave,
Coming to SMALL this year?
I'd say it's a 50-50 chance, I'm building a cabin on my rural property and want it closed up to the point of being able to do finished carpentry over the next winter. We're busy at work so it will be the odd weekend that I go up, but I have a lot of help available to get it done. I'll know more in the spring as I'll be digging the pylons as soon as the ground thaws.
I really want to be there.....

Get that cabin done, then go play..!
I ran across a real old book that shows how logs were converted to squared off beams with nothing more than broad axes. They would soak string in berry juice, snap a line the length of the log, then chop a series of kerfs the length of the log..then break the kerfs off.
They must have been using birch or poplar..evergreens would be too gnarly.
They must also have burned 6000 calories a day...imagine some vegetarian tree hugger keeping up with that pace.

CP maybe I should try that method for making a log cabin to get rid of this winter tire I seem to put around my waist.
All, when is SMALL this year. I looked in the Events forum but it doesn't mention it. Its one of my New Years resolutions to go.

I grew up in south Louisiana and working logs was quite common for boat making. If you want to see how its done: www.folkstreams.net/film,188
I wasn't born yet, but this wasn't far from where I lived.

There is a tool that is being used at 9:41 that I don’t recognize. Anyone know what it is/or is called?
I have lived in Southern Louisiana for the past 35 years and think I might know some of those folks!
Good people.

ICARE R/C in Canada has the MP Jet 061 exhaust manifold extensions in stock ... as well as the range of MP Jet engines.
