Can you guys post pics of the event. I was called to work at the last minute and couldn't make it. However a friend of mine arrived on the scene about noon on Saturday and was VERY disappointed, he said it looked like a Hobby King ARF electric convention. Please tell me he was pulling my leg!

Pointing me to the ELECTRIC forum on RCG doesn't make me feel better! Small ELECTRIC planes are NOT unusual, small GLOW planes are. It is the unusual that makes an event special and worth traveling to see.
There was a time when ELECTRICS were unusual. Remember all the interesting designs from Keith Shaw? Small glow planes are many times more unique and unusual these days.
I hope SMALL is more than another gathering of folks flying the latest electric ARF. So how about it, was there strong participation from the small glow crowd?

Wasn't trying to make you feel better. Was giving you the location of info and photos of SMALL. I attend every year and fly glow and diesel along with many others. If you've never attended you have no idea what you are missing.

SMALL is a social event where you might fly from time to time. I happened to fly more this year than in some other years. I sold a plane, gave away some stuff (including a plane to a kid who had a blast with it) and had some stuff given to me. I'll post this video of a very SMALL part of the glow that was flown this year. You can check my youtube channel for stuff from previous years if you want to see without the bother of the 4 hour drive. BTW, no one on the rcg ELECTRIC forum gripes that we post pictures and videos of glow stuff in the ELECTRIC EVENTS forum.

Thank you for testifying to the continued participation of the glow crowd at SMALL Perhaps my flying buddy happened to stop by at the wrong time on Saturday after the majority of the glow guys had packed up.
My participation or lack there of has nothing to do with the 4 hour drive but everything to do with maintaining employment.
Sometimes folks that work normal 9:00 to 5:00 type schedules fail to understand that others work jobs that are unpredictable in days worked and hours. These type jobs often prevent predictable vacation schedules. Oh well maybe next year.
By the way, I'm not griping. SMALL started as a glow powered message group as I recall and evolved from there to what it is today. I was only hoping that glow was still well represented.

You must plan your vacation time now. The first part of June is when SMALL happens. You are already used to the weather so you will feel right at home and will be welcomed. There is no telling what you might see. What you can't appreciate from the photos is all the laughter.

Unfortunately I can't plan vacations in advance, they just happen at the last minute. Once I came home from work on Friday and told my wife our 2 week vacation was starting on Saturday. Bought last minute plane tickets and we packed up and left in the morning.
I was ready to go this year with a shop full of 1/2a planes, RC and control line. Plus a Randy Randolph Misflit with an Enya .15. Duty called and now I am looking forward to next year.

My Misflit finally died last year with a folded up wing :-( I built it whenever the magazine was first printed and usually flew it every year a couple times anyway. This pic is all that is left, and the OS .10. Even the receiver is toast. Mapquest says 14 1/2 hrs drive. Hmmmm

I re-drew the plans of the Misflit in CAD for laser cutting. I had originally planned on kitting the plane and had permission to do so from Randy's family. I made some changes to update for more modern techniques but retained the over all dimensions and look of the model. One of the changes was spruce spars and I believe I added shear webbing to the wing.
I cut three kits, built one and gave the others to my flying buddies. There are 2 flying Misflits in Tyler, soon to be three.
Little Rock-
Yes, I have been checking out the pics on RCG of the various SMALL events through the years. Thanks for the tip on where to find them.

Here are a couple of pics of my favorite 1/2a flyers.
The yellow one is a pylon racer of my own design called a Pole Dancer.
The Delta is called a Thunderbird and was built from RCM magazine plans from the 1970's. Both are Cox Sure Start powered.
The blue and white plane is my 2.4 ghz single channel Skamp designed by Owen Kampen. I re-drew the plans in CAD and cut the parts out on a laser. It's a GREAT flyer with a Cox Pee Wee .020. I have managed to loop and roll it!

Thanks!
The Pole Dancer and the Thunderbird have foam wings that I cut myself. I also make a great 1/2a control line stunter with 1/2 of a Pole Dancer Wing. It will do the beginner pattern with ease and flys much better than a sheet balsa wing plane. We fly all manner of 1/2a planes in Tyler! Control Line, RC and sometimes Free Flight.
I even campaigned a flying shop rag for awhile!

I can vouch for O49flyer, he is a standup guy. At one time he had the best stocked Hobby Shop in East Texas as far as airplanes go until the internet killed him.
He would not do or say any thing to harm the hobby especially 1/2 A things. He did not say what his occupation was but when he is called he has to go.

I've flown single channel by accident during a combat match with the elevator servo stuck dead with enough "UP" to do loops. It wasn't that much of a hinderance...I'm not even sure when the servo went dead during the "banking and yanking" .
I've still never tried single channel flight "on purpose".

Hi Steve,
I had a partial knee replacement in May of 2012 and same on the other one in May of 2013. That knocked me out of those two. With being 81 years old and two bad knees I just didn`t feel up to it this year. Maybe next year.
I sure miss being with you guys and really enjoyed the 16 or so years in a row I had the privilege to attend. I can still see you hand launching the Hughes flying boat with the eight screaming Cox .010`s at Maumelle.
Have you heard any thing from Joe Wagner lately?
Time marches on.
