The second former has a cut out for the 2 oz tank and the bubble top for the breather tube.

The side sheets of thin ply will be over cut by a percentage joined at the top with thick slow cure CA zip kicked to keep the seams at the top and bottom stringers nailed down while CA naturally cures to the formers and to the 2 center stringers. Will finish up with more zip kicker on the bottom seam while the whole lot sets up. I will make poster board templates to insure the side sheets are set up to fit like a glove.

Hey Mike I wish lol ... nope will just cut them out with a jig saw. Lucky by design there is very little in parts due to the ply skin making things very rigid in the end.

Mike I can mail you templates or you can fudge off the progressive online single page plan thats forming as a jpg.
I have made room for the elliptical wing next. The firewall is big enough for any 10 or 15 size engine.

Paneling the bones looks like a tough job..!
I seem to recall reading that the P-38 or P-39 was covered with steamed plywood.
I'm trying to imagine how 1/64" ply would react to that..it would tear like tissue I think.
What once looked like a lifetime supply of 1/64" in my wood bin is no longer there.
I know I'll get a case of sticker shock when I see what it costs now..plus what an ackward item to ship just 1 of.

My hobby shop has some on hand - 1/64x12x48'' last time I was there I almost bought a sheet $31.44 a pop enough for 2 planes with scrap to do the center sections of the wing. 1/64" (0.39mm)

Single 48" sheets here for$22.62 but you pay for shipping.

Here you go;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Model-Plywoo...ht_2195wt_1106

If you buy 6 sheets at a pop / free shipping $169.97 / 28.33 ea. / 14.16 per plane in this case.

[QUOTE=Pond Skipper;

I had to do a search tonight for a 1.25in spinner a perfect size for the TD .09 so I had to buy from the far east.
The prop bolt for the 09 is a 6-32 I will have to make a adapter for what looks like a 2.5 or 3mm spinner bolt.

A 6-32 X 1/12 stainless cap screw with head cut off might be the ticket used with a 4mm collet made for an E-motor.

BTW....Nice design / concept

Thank you Skaliwag!!!

CP and others I went to the hobby store today and found a sheet of 1/32 x 12 x 24 which will be a the way to go.

The fuselage is only 24in as the rudder doesn't count nor does the spinner. That sheet only cost me $8.69 I did buy 1 sheet of the 1/64 x 6 x 12 for the wings center section to skin over the balsa for protection when the wing is held down. The 1/32nd is thick enough to hold up as a egg shell type design and will eliminate additional spruce stringers typically 8 stringers will only need 4 1/8in stringers so will have to reduce the notches in the formers. As you can imagine the frame only needs to hold true long enough to skin it with the 1/32nd after that its a brick house.

If I was building a 40 to 60 size I would want 1/4 stringers.

IIRC, I paid $50 for a 24" x 48" sheet of 1/64" about 10 years ago at the LHS along with some other really expensive little "necessities"....so I remember that as a very guilt ridden trip from the store.
That guilty feeling is pretty awful and it usually lasts a good 10 minutes or so while driving home.

I just did a quick estimate of what it would cost to sheath a 2000 sq foot roof with 1/64" to a thickness of 7/16".
Based on $63 for a full 4 x 8 sheet of 1/64" x 28 sheets to reach the desired thickness = $1764 per 4 x 8 panel.
It requires 62.5 panels x $1764, so roughly $110,000 or so.

I just use the contact paper they make for the kitchen drawers with the wood grain pattern. $3.99 a roll and it looks just as nice. Just don't fly it in the rain.

I used it many years ago.
IIRC, it seemed too heavy for anything but large models.
It might have been Bill Evans who specified it for his Polestar...?

The Rhino hide sounds like oriented strand board or something similar? .010 or .015" Lexan may be a good choice too. Sure is tough stuff on the rc cars.

Last night I bought a smaller version of the 1/9th scale Bridgette - Meredith cuts out some width and weight will still be a tight fit with the narrow fuselage.
Once it comes in I imagine I will have to resize the former lay out to shoehorn her in.

Ooh, cute. So, you'll have her head pivoting with the rudder servo will you? And whatabout adding a little 1.5 gram linear servo to wink her eyelids? LED's in the eyeballs? C'mon man.. bling it up!

Lol Mike the rudder servo thing is easy to do in fact the best is having pilot on a ball socket for elevator and rudder.

If 1/3rd scale eyelashes might be seen least one eye set up to wink on a slow fly by.

If your pockets are deep one could go with this 1/6th scale pilot:

It's easier to try goading someone else into doing more work on their airplane than it is for me to make any progress. Actually I had a productive evening last night , I dedicated the evening to experimenting on the laser to get the best cut possible on 1/8" lite ply - different focal length lenses and settings. I have cranked out myriad parts and had good fun but it has all been new toy whee factor stuff (which at one point included engraving a Babe Bee drawing onto a tortilla). I think it's time to get serious ..
