Default Sig Hummer

Just picked up this Sig Hummer kit and will be buying a new engine it will either be a Brodak .049 Mark II R/C with throttle or the Mecoa TokiR/C engine from Mecoa
Anyone have any experience with this plane and either of these engines.

Thanks

The Toki is real heavy. Get the brodak. If you use the toki, you will have to add lots of tail weight, bringing the overall weight of the model high and raising the wing loading. It will no fly well.

The Brodak does not have a muffler. Have you thought about an AP Wasp?

The AP Wasp has a loose crank bushing. It only gets worse with age. Mabe the Thunder Tiger 07? I own 3. They run like a strong black widow with a good idle.

Move the fire wall back and get the Toki .05 or the Fuji same engine really just renamed.
Smooth running with great power and clean running makes very little goo other than out the exhaust.

Here is the .05 running on the DART. You can swap the heavy carb out for a vintage OS 10 as shown
all up weight of the engine is 76.4g. A sportswerk header pipe fits great for exhaust diversion.

Sportwerks Header Pipe :

76.4g with prop and spinner.
The sportwerk header adds another 3.8g as I recall.

Mecoa sells a muffler for it and it sounds good if used
you will need to move the firewall back a bit more.

Here is the muffler sound with another .05 car engine
sounds the same for all these .05 care engine brands.
Fuji .05, Toki .05, Sportwerk .05, Picco .05, CY .06

For that plane the AP engine will be the best flying. The brodak is a very very weak engine. I have messed with three of them. They will turn up on a small 4.2x4 prop but any other prop and it sucks. Turns a MA 5x4 prop at 12,000 rpm at best.

Norvel .061RC is the one I would choose. Available new here:

Airplane engines

Or pick a used one up on the auction sites.

I have found both the norvel and AP to be real close in power on a prop that will fly this plane well. The APC 6x4 1/2A prop is excellent. It loads the engine some but performs very very well.

Not a whole lot posted about the Sig Hummer, but it is a nice little plane, quick building, and easy to follow instructions. Cannot remark on flying as mine has been built for about 15 years already and still has a few little things to get airborne.

I built a Sig Hummer from a kit. I power it with a Gilbert .07 engine. It works absolutely terrific! If I ever understand the machinations of putting the picture on the message, I will do that, also. By the way, the little plane flies absolutely perfect, with no dihedral and the ailerons. Built exactly like the kit instructed.

Default Picture of a Hummer

This is my HUMMER, built exactly to the kit's dimensions and I used the kit wood. I did install a brutha for the pilot of the Hummer.

Have you gone to the "Go Advanced" button? Then follow through after that. We like pictures. And welcome to the forum. I got one of those Gilbert engines, but never thought of using it for RC, as there is no throttle. Picked up an .11 Gilbert too. They look so cool.
