Suggestions for 1/2 A plane
I am looking for suggestions for a 1/2 A plane to fly around the house when I don't have time to go to the field. I have been looking at the ST .049 with the throttle. I would love to hear your suggestions looking for something fairly inexpensive.
Thanks.
Keith

Super Tiger (ST) makes an .049 engine with a throttle. I like this idea instead of electric (I think). Just trying to figure a way to have a little fun at home. I have a field behind my house about 10 acres with tobacco planted in it. I have room to take off and land something small in the yard.

Dear Walrus,
I didn't know that Super Tigre made an .049, but I'm sure their small engines would be as well made as their larger offerings and would perform great.
As for what model might by suitable for your purposes - their are too many variables to provide any suggestions outright.
Do you want a powered glider or a mini 3d machine - or (more likely) something in between? Ailerons and elevator or full house (or rudder elevator)? Do you want scale or a Stik? What is your building skill level? what is your flying skill level? Is noise a problem? do you have to dodge kids or dogs? I assume you will hand launch , but do you have a driveway/runway? How much room DO you have for landing? Do you want a kit or plans? Etc. Etc.
I always have trouble deciding on what my next project will be (that is, the next project that I will START). Someone told me to make a list of what you think are possible candidates (a cruise through one of the magazines should prtovide you with plenty of candidates), then write down the pro's and con's of each design. Chances are that you will answer your own question.
I'm not a PC junky but I actually made a quick Excel spreadsheet just listing my own selection/evaluation criteria (basically like the questions above).
I hope this helps. By the way, if you're anywhere near Smithfield or Raleigh anytime soon, come fly with us at the Johnston County Aeromodellers Club (shameless plug).

Where did you find a Tigre .049? Is there a website with details? I haven't seen or heard of one of these though I suppose it's possible now that the plant has been moved to China.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Keith,
I'm building an Easy Built Jodel D9 right now for my TT GP07 motor. Fun project, and I expect it to come out really light, even with the beefier spar mod I'm incorporating.
Another choice for a quick project is the Sureflite 1/2A Cub, all foam and a great little flier. I've had three of 'em.
Other good choices for the GP07:
R/N Models Beachey (34")
Herr J3 Cub (48")
Herr Aqua Sport (44")
Aerocraft Super Cub (46")
Easy Built Stinson 105 (50")
Ripmax Zephyr ARF (50") see Tower Hobbies site
Ace Simple Series (any of 'em)
House of Balsa FW190, Chipmunk, Bonanza
Sureflite Howard Pete (all foam ARF)
Read the latest issue of MAN for a list of good 1/2A kits on the market.
