Yeah, but I want a smithy granite w/cnc. Give me a couple of weeks to "convince" her.

PT,

Just use woman logic on her.

Explain to her that you need to save a fifteen dollar engine.

Then tell her the CNC machine is on "Sale."

My wife always explains to me how she saves me money by buying stuff on "Sale" so it may work both ways.

Well, that got me two new bruises. Problems is I spent my entire single life collecting mechanic tools. After I got married it was woodworking tools, then model airplanes stuff, now she won't let me buy any more tools!

pt,

IMO the "all in one" machine are limited in what they can do milling wise. Better to have a seperate mill and lathe.

I spoke to several different people about their UCTKAMs, and, sorry...they do indeed run.
Right out of the box. With those bearings, and no mods.
They are made to turn up way high, they timing is outrageous.
Schu, you might even try LESS prop.

Too bad the one I got is a car engine. The cylinder liner is indeed blocking the disc rotor outlet. It won't turn up any rpm's if I do end up getting it running. Maybe I'll make a car for it...[:'(]

PT,

Good, I'm glad someone finally sees what I was talking about.

I think if you simply grind a little meat away from the thick end of of the case, to allow some mixture to get into the case it should run a lot better.

You could always run it in race car configuration with a prop to see what kind of RPM you can get and then compare after grinding the case and reversing the case.

These engines have very short crankshaft threads so a shank-type prop nut will give a bit more length to play with when trying to mount a prop.

There is a black one available and I had Arne Hende make one for me. Tom Colleta also made up a few for spares. I'll see if I can find them and take a picture later.

I'm just saying it's possible there's two different engines. Looks like I got burned. Next time I'll do more research. 'Sides, I found out G&Z makes an .09, so I'm in the process of getting one of those bad boys. How do I get this one past my wife? Especially right after the Novarossi purchase...

What's a G&Z .09? Is that the CS FIRE?

CS is now G&Z. They will (or already do) make their engines in just about any configuration you want, FIRE, FISE, FIDO, FALALA, you name is!
You have to order directly from China, but they are reputable, no fears there.

Yeah, CS and another company merged. After improving the engines they called them G&Z. The .09 is a pretty rare I guess. Bill Hughes said he'd have to get me one made. They don't stock them.

PT,

OK, I know the CS .09. I have the normal version. They say it turns 27,000 and the piped version turns 35,000.

Here are some Chinese engines.

1. My CS .09

2. My S-Y .09 which was the basic building block for the AP "Hornet"...but no muffler to kill the power.

3. Silver Swallow .09 FIRE picture from a friend in Australia.

4. a Chengdu .09 picture someone sent me.

PT,

I found the site for the CS .09

Give them a call and see if James has any in stock.

Incidently, they also make an .11 using the same case as the .09.

PATRICK, make sure the .09 comes ready for NELSON plugs. As you know, it will save you money and give the best power. The prop selection for this engine seems to be good enough either through APC of through the carbon prop suppliers. It's fun to day dream and speculate about what this setup is capable of. I would guess that it will run good with a 5x5. What does the HP/THRUST calculator say about this prop at 35,000? I lost the link to that guys' site, it doesn't come up for me any more[&o]. Maybe it counted the number of times I visited his site and booted mr out? Anyway, the only scary thing about ordering a "one off" engine is availabilty of replacement parts. I would get an extra NVA and spinner, just so you will have them in your hand so you can handle any bumps or bruises that might happen while getting a new plane sorted out.

BTW, get a stack of liner shims and head shims [to go].

Patrick,

Go through James at the site Dan posted. I believe he is the direct factory link here in the states. I have bought from him in the past and is very nice to deal with, also takes Paypal. Now that I think of it I still need to order a couple more 3 piece aluminum spinners from him.

As for the Russin pile of crap I am 99% sure they are all made as car engines. When I took mine apart to switch ends for plane use I too noticed the blocked port. The ad stated "can be used in a plane by switching ends" yeah right[:@] I see at least you got a spinner what would work as like Dan said the ends of the cranks are pencil lead thin. Live and learn right? Heck I would like to see if mine would run in the car configuration but I don't think even with a U shaped pipe that you could get the pipe mounted to run a prop.

Dan, I've heard good stuff about that guy, but Bill Hughes is a racer and a distributor. So if I have questions or need parts I can go to the same place. I think one of the main differences between the CS and G&Z was a move to investment casting. That gives a little better end product, with a more consistent finish. Kinda like a Norvel.

CP, I've got a program called ThrustHP. Nice little program for choosing props. Not completely accurate, but close enough to put you on a good prop. It shows a 5x5 apc @ 35000rpm 167mph and needing .957hp. A little more than the G&Z claims, but that's what I look for as a starting point. (gotta account for unloading)

Tim, I've got your addres here. I'm sending these engines for your enjoyment. Have fun!
Seems kinda unfair not to do business with Bill after he pointed out this engine and participated in my "other" thread. And his prices are the same so far. (that's were it will be decided!)

Tim,

I just remembered, the Russian MDS is a better-built version or that Uctkam and is set up for airplane. An Aussie bud sent me a picture if his MDS.

Another Aussie sent me a picture of his Russian "Double-Star" .09 and he thinks it's the bomb.

By the way, the CS spinner will fit the Uctkam but you'll have to make a prop externder adaper because the shaft is very short on threads.

Another engine you might want to consider is the OS CZ11. In Australia 1/2A pylon also allows the use of .10 engines. Most 10's are over .10 so the OS 11 evidently fits the rules and does very well in half-a Pylon. Too bad they don't import it to the US. It has a BB shaft.

DAN, what IS the word about MDS?, and for that matter what do you know about MVVS in general? All I know about them so far is that their prices seem too low to be able to live up to their claims. BTW, thanks for posting the pics of these little thoroughbreds!

CP,

I don't have an MDS but my friend, Maris Distlers in Australia has one he was using for racing and seemed to like it.

The MVVS engines may be cheap but they run great. I know a lot of guys who swear by the MVVS 1.5cc diesel.

Here's a couple I have. Early on left and late model on right.

PT,

Yup, it's an MDS. I don't know if they were ever imported to the USA but I've seen a couple on ebay. They're fairly cheap.

PT.

Does Bill Hughes have a website?

That Nelson head for the CS .09 sounds interesting.

I saw a CS .061 in a FF over in Palm Bay, FL. It sure was impressive........Made a believer out of me.
