OK Cub: Any good?

RE: OK Cub: Any good?
Skaliwag,
I think if I built one today I'd go with a Enya-III .09 or maybe an OS Max .10 (pre-schneurle) because they have mufflers and have more power than my old Cubs and McCoys. I'd also be tempted to use a K&B greenhead .09 with an aftermarket clamp-on muffler or maybe one of my McCoy .09 diesels.

I would stay away from a PAW diesel on this model because it may be a little heavy. This is a light model and benefits from a light engine.
A Cox TD would almost be overkill but you could keep the noise down with the Cox .09 muffler or even a Medallion .09 would have plenty of power. The Cox .09's put out a lot more power than my old McCoy .098.
It all depends on what you want, a realistic flying bipe or a speed demon.
I think for a diesel, maybe a Supertigre G-33 would be a good choice, or maybe a Kingcat 1.5cc, both are fairly light and pretty much one-flip starters. being diesels, they do run quieter than glo's but you can bolt on an AM late-model .09 muffler onto a Kingcat if you really want to be stealthy in your neighborhood.
A super-light .09 diesel would be the 1951 Elfin but they are fairly loud for a diesel.
Many of the modern 1.0 cc engines would also fly this model with authority, such as a MP-Jets or Norvel.
Power choice would be pretty much up to the builder. Yes, an OS Pet .09 would also be a perfect choice too. I have about nine different versions of the Pet and would recommend the last version which had a unit construction case and a muffler.

My pleasure Geoffinpdx! Alway glad when I can help someone.
It looks as though I will be the proud owner of my first Cub pretty soon! A used .061!
Clean, I want one of those Gilberts too. I may never crank it but they just look so darn retro cool!
Even if I never crank it, I will have to build something special for it. A smallish C/L plane to display it on a shelf perhaps? I wonder what would be the perfect model to stick one on? Ideas anyone?

Yup, the Gilbert was an interesting engine.
It was designed by FOX, (Very similar to Fox Rocket .09) it was built by Johnson and sold by A.C. Gilbert (famous for American Flyer electric trains.)
The twin stacks of the Gilbert can be removed and one can be mounted on a Fox or Hustler .10 engine.
For Glo-heads, the Gilbert has the same thread as the Fox .09, Fox .10 and Hustler .10. A Cox .15 thread is the same also but I don't know if the combustion chamber might be too large.
