What have you been doing this Winter?
The attached picture is of the front of my house; guess what I have been doing all Winter, every two or three days it seems!
Hope you are getting more done model building and flying than I.
cheers, Graham

RE: What have you been doing this Winter?
I've been building a Herr Cloud Ranger (nearly have it to the covering stage). I've just started on a DARE Jenny. I'm still in the process of CAD-ifying a set of plans for a Flyline Kinner Sportster. I have build threads started for the Jenny and the Kinner.
As I only have 1-2 days on the weekend it takes me forever to get anything done. Computer issues don't help either.

RE: What have you been doing this Winter?
Graham, this year has been very wet, dark and a little windy so far. Not a good year for flying. Last year was very mild looking back on it. This weekend was my first chance to get out and fly in some comfort without dressing up like Nanook.
I like your brick house, very nice.

I think we've had about 5 flyable days since November [].
Dennis - what is the pusher? A Curtis Junior? Looks like an interesting project.

Hogflyer,
You're right it is a CW-1. There was an artical in the MA magazine a few months back (maybe even a year?) about an electric one with a 53" wingspan. I built this one from the published drawings with a 30" wingspan and it should fly OK with a .020 PW.

It's been an extremely long winter here in the midwest!!
Plenty of time for scratch building.

Building a Skydrill and flying at least once a week. Crashed my 4 Star 60[&o] Been thankful for good weather here. Oh, and a neighbor just gave me this to tinker with.

RE: What have you been doing this Winter?
DennisN,
Nice work on the CW Pusher. I just realized that you are from Bellevue. Where do you fly at? We should get together and do some flying, once the weather gets nice. I live on Beaver Lake. Gotta float plane?
It has been a long winter. The main thing I have worked on this winter is RC-a-fying a small free flight glider built from Earh Stahl plans. I have also Cad-a-fied the same drawings and made changes here and there. I had the parts laser cut and have the new version almost ready to cover. Oh yeah. I hung out with Hogflyer for a week and he helped me mount a new engine on my Goldberg Anniversary Cub and he video taped my test flights of my little glider while I was in Wichita.

RE: What have you been doing this Winter?
Sounds like some have had OK flying weather and others not. Gotta take what we get and make the best of it. We have had so much snow that flying from the snow is a real adventure, difficult to get into any field at all to fly. Temperature wise it hasn't been too cold just too much snow.
I have been working on a couple of these engines. making bits to put turned aluminum spinners on them, turbo plug buttons and modified heads and CS 061 sport engine throttles. I haven't decided what to do for mufflers yet. One will go on a Sig Nitro Rascal patiently waiting for power and spring.
My other big project is a Goldberg Senior Falcon just waiting for final assembly and spring.
Those along with a handful of catapult launch chuck gliders, Dakota with 020 power and a couple of simply 1/2a combat types.
So I guess I haven't been just shoveling snow all winter but it sure seems like.
DennisN: yes indeed, cool drill bit holder. I am going to build something like that too.
Tee Bee: is that a Mills or Deezil or something else as exotic?
cheers, Graham

RE: What have you been doing this Winter?
Half-Hec, I belong to two clubs here. Bellevue RC (www.bellevuerc.com) which has a really good asphalt runway, you can check it out at the website. It's located inside the marina at Hayworth Park and when the river is at it's normal level there is an unused marina just to the east of the field that has seen a couple of float plane take-offs and landings. It's not within the club rules to use it but it happens. Although I do not have a plane on floats I have enjoyed flying a wingo on floats there once or twice.
I also belong to the Cobra RC Club and their field is just a couple of miles across the river from me in Iowa. It has a grass runway but if you like wide open with absoluely no obstructions it is the place to be. I mostly fly my larger planes there.
GrahamC / Somegeek, With every year that I spend in this hobby the it becomes increasingly more difficult to see the size on the end of the drill bit, the holder is cool but it is more of a neccesity for me. It makes it much easier to find the bit that i'm looking for.

That is some beautiful work on that little pusher. What is it and are there any plans available? Keep us posted. She's a real looker!

It is my close in vision that has changed the most, my distant vision is nearly as good as ever, maybe not 20 year old good but still pretty good.

Graham, it's a Deezil. Don't know anything about diesels. I've been on the diesel forum asking about them. It makes a neat conversation piece even if I never run it.

On Ron Chernich's web site there is some information on the Deezil.
http://www.modelenginenews.org/deezil/index.html for a start
if you use the search function from the main web page you will find other bits of information as well.
http://www.modelenginenews.org/
Ron publishes an update each month and is one of the first stops I make each 1st day of each month. Lots of good information contained on his web site - a real labour of love on Ron's part and he a well deserved reputation in the world of model engineering and model engines because of it.
