Anyone got a 1/2a Warlock?
About a year ago I bought plans for a 1/2a Warlock. I just started building it and it seems like a nice plane and its easy to build. I'm going to make it a tail dragger to get rid of the front wheel and save a little wight. I've also thought about putting a rudder on it. Not sure about the engine yet.
I was just wondering if anyone hs one? How does it fly etc? What motor are using? I'm thinking I'd like to have a throttle but don't know if it can handle the extra weight. I've got a good Norvel .074. Any advise or suggestions before I get too far along? Terry

This company has had their web site up for a few years but seems very slow in getting their kits into production:

Andrew, thanks for the Warlock build tread. Got of good info there. Its a sharp looking plane and I think later I'll make a 15 size also. I've got the wing about done and so far its been very easy to build. The plans I have, doesn't have a movable rudder. I think a movable rudder is in my plans also. Have to be able to stear it on the ground. Terry

I upsized a Warlock to .15 size and put a .20 on it. It flies beautifully! Even on a deadstick landing, it just floats in. Do a search on Upsizing a Warlock in this forum if you want to read about some of the trials of upsizing plans.....
The warlock plans actually call for it to be a Trike Gear, with a steerable nosewheel. I made mine a taildragger with a working rudder for ground steering.
Whatever size you decide to build, you will be happy with it.
Tim.

Tewitt, glad to hear there will be another Warlock in the air shortly.
I really like the performance of the plane with the 074. It is pretty fast for a sport guy like me. Certainly no pylon racer, but I wouldnt be surprised if I'm hittin 70-75 mph (thats just a guess though)
She seems to be very stable which I think is due to the pattern influance in the design. Ouside loops are as tight and controlled as inside loops. I think lengthening the controlling surfaces on the tail helped with performance also.
If you deside to convert to a tail dragger (Which you likely will if you go with the 074) get most of the wheels in front of the leading edge and you should be OK on the ground. With my plane, the center hub of the wheels is even with the plane of the leading edge, and I sometimes struggle with keep her from nosing over on the ground.
Please keep us informed with how she comes along. If you have any direct questions I can help with, dont hesitate to ask.
Andrew, thanks for the good press. It was cool to come here and see my pictures already posted.

Digger, I moved the landing gear block from behind the main spars to in front if the spar. maybe it won't be enough from what you say. I may have to bend the gear forward as I have the wing all done. I'll get the gear on and see how it looks. I'll keep in touch. Terry

I have seen a Warlock at eighteen ounces with retracts fly very fast
with a TD .049.I flew one for years at nineteen ounces with an OS.10.
This has to be one of my all time favorite airplanes.tracks perfectly
and is very aerobatic yet slows down nicely to land. you will love it.

I put the landing gear blocks on my Warlock in front of the main spar and put notched, 1/8th inch plywood half-rib doublers in to re-inforce the landing gear. I also had to bend the gear so that it angled forward. I have it set so that the axle is even with the leading edge of the wing. I also have slightly oversized wheels on it (just 'cause that's what I had in the supply box). I haven't had it nose over ever.
Two weeks ago I took it out and flew off the lake - frozen, of course. That was really fun. Now I have to consider how to attach floats to it for some summer fun.

As you can see I've got the wing done and the fuse mostly done. I does build very easy and going fast. Will post more later. Terry

I have it ready to cover, but I may readjust the landing gear a little. I think it might be too far forward and too high but I can take care of that any time. I have all electronics in and a 380ma battary and a round 2 oz tank and a Norvel .074. Balances great. Weight now with everthing read to fly minus covering weighs 20 1/2 oz. I'll post again after ist covered. Terry

Digger.....I have it covered but I've been too busy to finish it up with hooking up the control surfaces. I'm hopeing it will be a good flier. I have another plane which is about the same style but it has the tapered wings (narrower on the wing tips), and I'm thinking this one won't tip stall so easy. Don't know when I'll get at it to finish it up. I'll keep you posted here. Terry
