A Wen-Mac that'll make your lips smack!
A Wen Mac doesn't usually turn ones head.
I have seen one that really bears a look see. It is on that big auction site some love, some loath.
The box isin't much to look at and it seems to have done it's job well protecting what is inside. A control line, twin Wen Mac powered P-38 in absolutely beautiful condition. Take a peek.

I am not sure how many of you went to look at the pictures of this plane but it seems it is no longer listed. I just checked and the item number no longer exists.
There was over three days left till the end and now it is just gone. Oh well! It was really nice.

Robert,
The Wen Mac P-38 is still there with 9 Days to go.
It must have been re listed....
The current bid is at $1025.00 !!!!!!!
WOW!! how high do you think it'll go?
It must be the rarest RTF in the world.........

When last I looked it was over a thousand six hundred dollars and I was going to make a joke later about how the 35 dollar shipping charge might create a hardship on how much a bidder might bid..
Could be there may have been someone backed out and then it was relisted?
Besides the fact it is a Wen Mac, it is a breathtaking example.

RE: A Wen-Mac that'll make your lips smack!
I would shave off all the rivet detail and panel lines for more speed, remove the twin Wen-Mac's and chop the nose for a single Cox .09 (Estes version for sure), then brush paint it just to hear all the cool gasps.[sm=eek.gif][sm=lol.gif]
Actually, it's very rare to see that example and makes you wonder if it's the only one left in that condition! Very Nice!!!

Jim, So far I have not seen the listing in PA. Do you have an item number for that?
I remember seeing a RTF plastic lump P-38 in a store once and it had only one engine in one of the nacelles and a dummy engine in the other. I thought that was a huge rip off as I was hoping to buy one model and get 2 engines! I just can't remember who made it. Testors FlyEm? Those sure were cheap planes.Surely not Cox? Cox did have a Cessna Skymaster with only one engine.

Still 5 days left to go too...
Hey...while I'm here...does anybody here make, or does anybody know someone who makes repro decals/stickers for some of the Wen Mac planes?
I have a P-26 thats in beautiful condition, but it's "naked"...
I have thought of trying to make them myself, but I'm not really all that computer literate...not yet anyway.

I'm not too excited about old RTF's bringin' da big bux, but for another reason I think that this listing is worth a lookie...
The last picture is the cover of Flying Models Sept. 1956.
It shows Disneyland Tomorrow Land - with the control line demonstration ring right in the foreground!

RE: A Wen-Mac that'll make your lips smack!
I wonder if anyone on this forum remembers the Flying Circle or even remembers a Wen Mac P-38 flying. Great part of history for the US.
I would love to go back in time and watch for hours the models fly at Disneyland.

I'm cruising with. I got a whole ten dollar bill I can spends. I figure that should fill up the cart pretty good for everyone once we get there, plus a ton of extra stuff.
RCGroups, huh? What a two-timer!
And on went George's quest of owning half the world's supply of actual full vintage engines for everyone else to wonder what comes out of his hat next.

Mine had a single Testors Mk-II or Mk-III. I too was disappointed that one engine was a dummy.

"Worth"...maybe, but...IMO it just means there's some looney with more money than brains, willing to pay that much for a hunk of old plastic, in an attempt at regaining a glimpse (sp? ) of youth...
What ever turns your crank...floats your boat, etc. etc.
When the prices get to that point...insanity overcomes reason. (once again, JMO )

RE: A Wen-Mac that'll make your lips smack!
I guess it goes back to the supply/ demand thing.
Muscle cars from the 60's are a good example. If it is rare, there are few of them and there is demand from the demographic that has high income, you get a 1969 Camaro worth $500k
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...fCarsQ5fTrucks
These all aluminum 427 Camaro's were worth close to a $M a few years back.

that is a nice looking car but it could never command that kind of money, even on a good day at Barrett's.

RE: A Wen-Mac that'll make your lips smack!
Back to the topic of ancient RTF twins, any one? I vaguely remember a RTF B-25 Mitchell with Fox .07 engines, but have no idea who manufactured it.
I do remember seeing a number of 1/2A control line twins fly in the late 60s, but they were profile jobs done from MAN plans and the like. P38s and Mosquitoes come to mind. I never tried to build one. I suppose building and wrecking single-engine planes was expensive enough with my budget.
