I have a Hobby Shack "1/2a-sst" kit.

What do you want to know?

Oh, that's a different question.

The kit I have is absolutely NIB. I wasn't thinking of selling it, but if you have to have it, PM me with your offer.;)

I have a RCM Hornet and Ace GLH-II kits. Both 1/2a go-fast planes.

If you can build from plans:

http://www.rcmplans.com/index.php?ma...oducts_id=1470

Shows a foam wing (if you know how), but should be easy to build a constant chord wing.

Is your heart set on building from a kit? I have a complete, fully built plane that I can be persuaded to send off to a new home. I've flown the plane a few times, but it's been in storage for about three years now. Let me know if you're interested in the plane and I can get you the full inventory of what's in it; servos, engine, etc.

Regards,
Jaime

that's funny...
$11 for a copied  'plan' .. the kit cost me less than $10 bux direct from Hobby shack..  back when.
Model is mediocre to crappy. Still have it though  stored in the rafters  Too cheap to bin it ..basically.
The wing is the only neat thing about it being foam with  sheeted leading edges and cap strips.. Tooooo heavy though
The fuse splits almost instantly, the engine mount setup guarantees fuel foaming  on a TD... Not good.
The elevator is too small to be effective.
There IS reason it was a Very Cheap kit.

I have not researched the history of the 1/2asst, but I suspect you would be more accurate if you referred to the plans in the Hobby Shack version as the "copied plan" rather than the original Vince Micchia design plan published in RCM. It is my guess that the RCM article and plans came first, and that Hobby Shack then worked with the designer to produce the kit.

I think the wing is interesting too. At first look the wing construction method seems overly heavy and redundant to me too.

However, if thin balsa and very light foam are used, I suspect that in terms of a weight/strength/shape evaluation, this method comes out looking pretty good.

Ooops   sorry  didn't know the pedigree  of the silly thing.  I just bought the kit, presumably like everybody else, because it was too cheap to pass up.
A friend, who builds stunters (to perfection) CNC cuts his foam cores, mostly hollowed, on the machine and uses balsa sheeting and capstrips, then carefully removes the foam in the bays between the cap strips.
He claims there is still a slight weight gain over a built up wing, with the advantage being a  worthwhile increase in rigidity.
A compromise he deems worth the effort.    All one needs is a CNC foam machine and the skills to use it :-)
My view remains steadfast : the 1/2A SST should stay a forgotten footnote, it  really wasn't a memorable item.
