New Stik plane.
 

Well, I'm getting along pretty good with the new addition. I started with an electric mini telemaster kit form a trade on here. never liked the body so I got some old balsa out and ripped it on the band saw and then sanded it clean. Also from some great folks on this site, I have several sets of "Stik" plans. I have always loved that stik!!! so since this will be my grandson's trainer, I put the wing, with stik tips all around on a stick body. I took the dimensions from some of the folks drawings and text and made the body....

I call it, "The Flat Stik"!!! flat bottom wing and stik everywhere else.

now to get the ribs cut for a real stik and build another couple of bodies....I added some pics and hope they make it. it's going to be powered by a .25 with mini servos and normal receiver for an X-347

Nice job! That telemaster is for sure a stik now and will no doubt fly like one.

I wonder how many remember what THE original stik looked like? It was published in a 1966 issue of Grid Leaks. Another bit of trivia, notice that the Grid Leaks cover refers to Phil Kraft’s “Das Ugly Stik” but the title block on the plans spell it as “Das Ugly Stick”?? I doubt Phil had any idea of the number of variations that his ‘workhorse’ plane would inspire.

Telemaster to "Flat Stik" is quite an interesting bash - I'll bet folks that see it fly will ask how you got an Ugly Stik to glide so well.

One area you may want to keep an eye on is that portion of the rudder with lightening holes closest to the hinge line. Sometimes, lightening holes on small models don't save very much weight and with a vertical grain, you don't have much structure left there. The covering may help stiffen it up, but there's not much wood left in the webs between the holes and it might crack in that location.

Andrew, Yes, I did take into consideration the holes in the vertical and horizontal stabs......the plane should come out to be about 37 ozs and I feel that will be ok for the surfaces......this balsa is 50's and 60's contest grade and it is very strong and light......

I'll keep the forum posted on first flights and trims.....
