Not a 1/2A trainer

I made this wing maybe 3-4 years ago, and I remember posting something about it.. it is based on airfoil stock, but I split it lengthwise and added chord, then inlaid unidirectional CF caps into sanded grooves, inset CF into the TE and LE, put CF tissue on the front 1/3 then tissued it. And a bit of lightweight filler..

So it is destined for an SWR, but has been gathering dust. 4-3/8" chord x 23" span. Now with this new toy - Profi Rambler .049 which will start life on the Blink - I'm inspired to do something with the wing. It is actually a Cub planform and I toyed with a small "sleeper" Cub but that might be too run of the mill. Then I remembered this favorite of mine, the Macchi MC-72, and I think this will serve as the inspiration for a sort-a-scale fuselage and tail group, and of course the open cockpit and windscreen. No floats.. don't want to slow it down too much.

It ought to sound scale. Not.

Love the title hahah
will it have contra rotating props :p

but in all seriousness looks like a sweet build.

The nice thing about a subject like this is nobody can ever make sarcastic remarks about overpowering the aircraft. After all, the full scale subject was an exercise in going as fast as possible by forming a single seat aircraft around the most badass engine they could conjure up. 440mph on floats - imagine how fast this thing could have gone with retractable mains. How fast would Rare Bear go on floats..? Not 528mph I think.

I'm not going scale here, just inspired profile/sort a scale is all. I wanted a cute low winger with a wing that resembled a Cub plan view.

Go scale speeds. Maybe 1/20th scale. 120 mph equals 2400mph on the real one. Make sure the wing will hold up to the G's, and I would make the stab a bit bigger than scale. Otherwise, it almost looks like it was made to house a glow motor.

It's a natural. I would automatically scale up the stab as SOP.

It is probably not possible to break that wing in the air.

This is quite an inspiration for a small sport aerobat..

That little cup sure did inspire some pretty airplanes.. plus push the development of the liqiud cooled areo engine.

That thing had a gross weight of 6600lb.. on less wing than a Cub. Egads. Thank goodness for counter-rotation. What a beast, high kill ratio. Certainly a pioneering era in aviation.
