Norvel diesel heads for the .074

Hi guys, long time no see!

i saw last week that Norvel has a limited quantity of .074 diesel heads on hand and figured one or two of you might like to have one before they sell out like the 1cc heads did. This is a great motor as a diesel, makes a ton of power and still acts like a glow .074.

Hope the head's up helps someone, I knew they were talking about making them but I lost interest when Gkamysz made a head for me. It runs nicely enough that I wanted another and I jumped at it when I visited NV Engine's site and saw them advertised. They are much better made than the earlier 1cc head they offered.

Take Care,

Dave

Howdy Dave..!

What plane do you fly with it...?

I'll bet a .074 with a 8 x 3 prop is the Killer Set Up [for 3D] on diesel fuel.
This combo actually works OK on glow fuel, so it would be interesting to see what difference there is on diesel fuel.

I'm running two of them, a JMGlasskraft Penetrator and a Herr P-51. The Herr is a little pokey on a 6.3-4 because the fuse is so wide, I'm hoping a Propper prop will help get it off the ground, it won't ever be a speed demon and it flies well once on step, but it does need some distance getting off of pavement.

A pair of dieselized .074s would be impressive on something like a B-25 I'll bet.
RC combat is the other "natural fit" for slow but steady chugging power. I think you and Greg could fly all day with a pair of lightly built flying wings.

Greg says it makes more power than on glow, just at an RPM that most don't think of when equating small engines and earth shaking power. His website says it does 11k on a Graupner 8-4 with a 4500rpm low end: http://www.dieselrc.com/blog/?p=12

The worst part about Greg is that he and his family are 5 hours way in good weather on the other side of the other armpit of the Midwest... I'm in Detroit, he's in Chicago. We don't get to fly much anymore.

Well, it's too bad you guys have steady, highly skilled, lucrative jobs that don't allow much hobby time.
I worked mostly as "Hall Trash" during the busy time of the year in new construction and averaged 2 to 3 months off every year. Just about as sweet as what the teachers get, but always uncertain about your next employer.

Dunno about the steady or lucrative part, but the work is good enough to keep up with adult responsibilities with a little left over after in between layoffs....

It's those layoffs offs that make me appreciate the toys I have been able to put away because they are stored wealth that can't be taken away. Always chapped my Hiney when idiots online say "meh, it's Detroit, they are all lazy UAW thugs, screw 'em" when the economy tanked. Very few people are in unions anymore and the big three pretty much only hire single minority mothers off of the state unemployment agency so it stings a bit when you spend an entire career developing yourself as a tradesman and designer of things most people wouldn't understand. I guess some people can be happy unless you aren't happy.

i just want to ride my bikes, shoot my guns, and play with my toy airplanes. :)
