Looks great Jeremy! :D I guess I gotta get outta the workshop & TurboCAD to come see it fly now. Oh well, Roger's canard stab rib CNC files will have to wait awhile!

Well, I've seen it fly and must say it's a resounding success! The N-N-N-No-Nor, uhh, Big-Mig .061 ran super (although it died numerous times at idle :D) Unlimited vertical, lazy-slow flat spins, (barely loses altitude in inverted flats) harriers, I saw it hover, knife-edge at prob'ly 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and does a really cool "forward flop" outside loop in about twice it's own length. Like always, Jeremy's hit another one plum outta the park, AGAIN! :eek:

I was there wit Dickeybird waiting for Jeremy too. After a little more tweaking, he got the Norvel running reliably (not going there:)) and he had a good ole time with it. Saw all that Milton talked about and it even Knife Edge loops too!

It's a great little plane and I think the name he has choosen will be appropriate.


No, I didn't forget to tell you.......that's the designer's job!

Thanks DickeyBird for putting up this report and for coming out and taking the pictures. They look absolutely Awesome!

This thing really is fun. Rarely have I felt so comfortable with a new design on its first day.... Thanks to Morganelli, I figured out my fuel delivery problems.... it helps when the clunk stays on in the tank:eek:.... Can't blame it on the Norvel....

As for the Norvel-- I am genuinely very impressed. I traded some stuff for this one, so it was lightly used when I got it. It runs well, and actually hand starts (some of the time) Throttle control is very functional, and it is a good running engine overall.

I proved one other thing (about 5 times...) after DickeyBird left. Unfortunately, I proved (as if I have not proven to myself already enough) how crash resistant light airplanes are. While trying to sort out the fuel delivery problems, I had the plane about 20 ft up over the runway in a hover and the engine died. You guessed it- straight in from that height. Damage? Nope! Nada. Nuttin' Did the same thing several times during the day and never had any more damage than bent landing gear.

Thanks guys!! I will consider doing a kit for this one.... too much work on a different one right now to do it... So howzabout a set of free plans...

The plane is very ez to build, and there is not much to it. I hastily finished up the plans and loaded them on my site. Anyone who wants them is welcome to them. I have them loaded on the site in DXF right now, and will add DWG tomorrow. (sorry I can't do PDF).

I will also add some construction detail photos to the page in a day or so.

how do i view dxf documents? i like your website. 1st time i've seen it. do you think your spider delta could be converted to a SPAD?

The bottom line, it ain’t easy unless you use a CAD program. That is why other formats are preferred. DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) was created to allow free exchange of drawings between different CAD users. Unfortunately, it doesn’t even do that very well. There must be dozens of different varieties of DXF and they just sort of half ***** talk to each other. There are (free) programs that will read DXF tho. Do a search for “Whip!”. I used to have a copy, and it did a good job and would allow you to print.

Matchlessaero, I can convert your DXF to a PDF with numbered pages and crop marks if you like.

A big thanks to BipeFlyer. With his assistance, I now have the plans in tiled PDF format as well as the other formats on the site. They are all in the same zip file.

I will try to get some pics of the basic construction (I'm now very glad I covered it in clear!) and add them to the site to help with building. Should be up in a day or so.

Finally got a video today.

This thing really is easy to hover. And I managed to do a landing while flatspinning...[8D]

This video only shows hovering around and a little bit of a torqueroll.

Rr..... I put the movie on one site and the plans on another to prevent overload (does not take much before they shut me down for an hour...). Build this thing! You will have fun.

Bipe, I tried a couple of props that let the thing run up the rpm scale like the engine is supposed to like, but in the end, the black, rubber, cox 6-3 has been by far the best. Besides being pretty much unbreakable, it has by far the most 'bite', and is definitely the best for hovering.

Chuck, I still have the shirt! Now I have an even better reason to wear it.:)

Well I downloaded and printed the plan. Just got through taping it together. Just wanted to say thanks to matchless. This is going to be a fun project, and the plan was free. Way above and beyond the call matchless! Hope you don't mind if I have to bug ya with a few questions should the need arise. I did note that there's alot of photos on in the other fourm so I'll keep the questions to a minimum.

Matchless, A couple of questions(I know, it didn't take me long to ask did it!), I was curious about the pull\ pull detail with the rudder. I've looked at the posted pics in the other fourm and can't really see how (or where) you routed the kevlar to the opposit side of the fuse. Not a big deal I can probably figure somthing out, but was wondering how you did it. Secondly, since mine is "still under construction" would you suggest I shorten the fuse one inch as you noted in one of the other posts.

No Problem Darren. I'm glad you like it!

As for the pull pull routing, I used tiny screw eyes (removed any burrs) from the hardware store to route all the stuff on the left side of the fuse (elevator and left side of rudder). For the right side of the rudder, I used a piece of sharpened brass tubing (1/8") to cut/drill through the fuse on a shallow angle just above the tail boom. I threaded the right side rudder line through this hole.

Matchless, thanks for the tip on the 4 gram servo I'll look at it. Buy the way I have the fuse and wing framed on the "Half Wit" I'm building. Made the fuse 1" shorter. Also didn't have any 1/64" ply. and didn't want to pay 6 bucks for a sheet (man am I tight or what) so I'm thinking of "glassing the L.E. on the inside where the doubler goes and glassing the elevator joiner. Opinion? Also used a smaller diameter carbon rod (had it lying around) for the fuse. This plane is fun! I'lll post pics when it's done

I don't think I would glass the inside of the LE, it won't provide the kind of reinforcement that is needed there. Instead of using the 1/64 ply, you could put some hard 1/16" balsa as a reinforcement. (don't forget to shorten the ribs if you do)

Smaller rod should not be a problem...

I can't wait to see your pictures... I got some of mine the other day. I have now gotten this thing to do a low (6" off the ground) knife edge pass for most of our runway. Not bad for a Norvel!
