Another !/2A Pattern 'plane
 

A couple of years ago I scaled down the plan of the Tiger 40 to around 40 inches and was toying with putting a Norvel .061 or TT .074 on the front but never got around to it. Now I have scaled down my engine size to .010, .020 and the GWS S2 electric but I see that Tower has introduced this little "made in China" jewel. I may have to rekindle the fire.

That's a handsome plane and it would make for a quick and simple build, BUT it looks too big for anything less than a .15 to haul it with "pattern plane" type authority. I don't think it should .weigh much more than 13 ozs if you want a good vertical line with an 061. Maybe if a good quantity of wood gets left in the kit box instead of installed on the plane an 074 can get the job done with style?NAH, I still like the .15 idea.

Neat plane, has more appeal in the smaller size to me. I'm thinking it would be a good home for my Norvel .15 but it would hardly be a Park Flyer. FYI, Tower claims a "Flying Weight with 2-Cell Li-Po Battery: 1.1 lb (499g)" For comparison the slightly smaller HOB 1/12 scale series at 36" span are all supposed to be within 20-28 OZ and use .051-.10

I think that a 0.061-0.074 would be a good choice. At 1.1 pound with the heavy elecrtic motor and the lipo batterys. With a little work it should be easy to get it around 13 oz ready to fly. My Half Wit almost hovers at 14.8 oz. So I don't see 3 more onces needing to go from a 0.061 to a .15. Plus the extra weight of the .15 over the 0.061 would kill any type of glide it would have.

I built a 36" model, based on the Tiger 2, a couple of years ago. I used it for combat and killed it. It was a nice flyer though.

It could have been repaired easily enough, but it sat around for a year and I used the wing for something else.

It was a mid-air, as you can probably tell, and my wing came off while cutting Paul's plane in half. His prop cut my throttle servo wire making it a Norvel powered missile.
