Source for 8-40 tap
I've been trying to locate an 8-40 tap, but the only places I can find that carry them are gunsmithing suppliers in the US. I can just imagine the hassle getting anything through customs with "gun parts or tools" on the declaration.
Does anyone know where I could get an 8-40 tap and possibly a die as well? |
RE: Source for 8-40 tap
"Coholic's custom machine shop".... :)
You want to borrow mine? Andrew PS I deal with a very good machine supply dealer in Ontario, through my woodworking business. I can certainly see if they carry these (I bet they do) want me to look?? |
RE: Source for 8-40 tap
I'd rather buy one if I can. I would hate for something to happen to yours.
It'd be great if you could check with your machine suppy dealer. Thanks! |

Bipe,
Check out VME Victor Machinery Exchange Inc. in New York City. www.victornet.com They have both the 8-40 tap and die. Looks like about $8.00 US each. The only problem is they have a minimun of $25.00 plus freight. Later, Tim |

RE: Source for 8-40 tap
I think the 8-40 thread is the older pre-1929 thread standard for fine threads. The U.S. is now using the 8-32 as the fine standard.
Rutland tool and supply has the earlier styles, at about $9 each. The 8-40 is part number 2144-0053. According to thier catalogue they have a Canadian outlet too. Wm. |

[link=http://www.mcmaster.com]McMaster-Carr [/link] has 4 versions, but they are pretty pricey at $16 to $18 each USD.
