Is it possible to build a guillows model and equipt it with a micro radiio system and a .049 or a Indoor Power System? Please let me know. Im planning on building a spitfire or a P-40 warhawk.

Hey Vraptor04-

I have a Guillow's Fw-190 sitting here that I would like to convert someday. Some people will tell you that the kits are too heavy for RC, but it has been done. I did some research a while back myself and found some very helpful threads are www.RCGroups.com I take it that the your plane has a wing span around 25"...these have been done 1/2a and the smaller kits 18" wingspan have been converted with electric power. I have no clue what your flying capabilities are, but these little war birds are fragile and quick... I'm waiting to build mine. I don't want to turn it into toothpicks on it's first flight.

The MUSTANG that I recently built is 25", the dimensions were taken from a Guillows kit. The number of pieces involved, the poor quality of the wood, etc. make them poor choices for guys who are just getting started. If you are an experienced small RC modeler, then there is your challenge. For a guy with a little bit of building experience, I would skip the sticks and build a facsimile out of balsa sheet, and increase the wing area and tail group area to be proportionate with the bigger wing. 200 square inches or so of wing area wouldn't hurt the overall appearance, it would still look like a P-51, and you could make the whole plane out of mostly 3/32", 1/8" balsa sheet, and use either light 1/4" sheet that is carved for the wing, or stick with the GUILLOWS method of construction. A rubber power flyer from around here uses the GUILLOWS kit pieces as templates that he transfers over to hand selected, light wood. These planes are covered with tissue and are incredibly light. One of these models that this guy has done would be a great candidate for micro electric RC, but he would probably punch me for just thinking that thought;).

There was an article in Aeromodeller back in the 60's by Phil Kraft, as I recall, about a Guillows SE5A and Spitfire converted to 049 RC. I can look up the reference if anyone needs it.

Jim, I would like you to find it for me. BTW my buddy Ron just built a B-17 with 4 GWS IPS motors on it. flies good

Yeah i went and looked at it. BTW I successfully built a Guillows P-40E and placed a .049 on it with micro servos and a 180Mah Battery. I will post pictures soon.

The newer Guillows kits with the laser cut parts are really quite nice.

If it's laser cut, the parts have burnt edges.;)

The laser cut kits are so labled.
