Older AME 061
I see alot of the older Norvel AME High performance 061 C/L for sale. I have a friend that just bought one that has the black fins on the cylinder and I see other with silver fins. What is the differents between the two besides age? Do they have the same performance?

Old ones are AAC new ones are with a hard oxide sleeve and not hard chrome, which is faster I think that the newer one is,but I have never swapped them out on the same airframe for testing??

old ame
Not to start a war here, but I pruchased an old style AME .061 RC, Pressure nipple on front of muffler and small size fins on the cyl. It ran good. I purchased a Big Mig .061 rc and it ran better. I can not tell you why but the Big Mig would run faster and start easier as well. I don't have any rpm numbers to offer but there was a distinct difference.
On a side note. The box for my 1st Norvel engine (old style) said "AME .061- B6R". I understand this is the B6R is actually the designation for the Big Mig. If someone has any info about this please advise. Jimmy |
Older AME 061
AAO Ceramic Seal
A new cylinder/piston technology used on NORVEL .15 engines. AAO means (Aluminum piston, Aluminum cylinder, coated with Oxide). Oxide is a ceramic structure that is harder than chrome, nickel, or steel. It is porous, so it holds oil and creates a ceramic seal between the cylinder and the piston. This improves combustion efficiency and power from 20-40%. ...Tidbit from Norvel |
Older AME 061
Jimmy:
The Norvel part number B6R is for the Big Mig .061 R/C, the newer "Revlite" version with anodized fins. The first engines avaible in North America were both glow and diesel, they were all AME'S. When Norvel became the distributor, they became available as sport and high preformance, the Big Mig was the sport and the AME was the HP. Same engine, different porting. With the change to ceramic coating, they became "Revlite" still come as Big Mig and Sport. Fly SMALL, Have A BALL |
