Comparator Stand

1 Attachment(s)
In a recent thread 'jetpack' posted the following:

------Another good way to lap is using a comparator stand. In machine tool catalogs they are usually under $20 and even come with a 1" dial indicator. ------

Well 'jetpack', can you please guide me to a source who sells these neat tools for $20.00 or there-a-bout? The cheapest foreign made econo-job I can find is about $50.00 with no Dial Indicator and about $65.00 w/ Dial Indicator included.

While on the subject of shop tools, who can clue me as to the potential uses of this here following [link=http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?PMPXNO=1757302&PMT4NO=9689883]'Surface Gage'[/link] ...... THANKS to All in advance! Donald Garry

RE: Comparator Stand

It can be used for laying out scriblines with the attachment shown or you can mount your 1" indicator on it and use it for checking TDC or for comparing the parrallelism of surfaces. With said indicator you can also use it to true up a newly chucked part in a lathe.
What did you have in mind.
It really isn't that usefull with out a surface plate to use it on.

I picked up a Dial Indicator w/magnetic base a year or so ag ofrom Victor Machinery Exchange for $30.00. Last time I looked at their site it was the same price.
