Norvel spare parts
In my request to keep my engines running I like to have some spare parts. I found a source on the intenet but it lists the choices for .049 and .062 as (Note, these numbers DO NOT [always] match up with the Norvel part munbers).
NVL100401 NORVEL CYL/PISTON 049 BLACK FOR A4-A4R NVL100402 NORVEL CYL/PISTON 061 BLACK FOR A6-A6R NVL100405 NORVEL CYL/PISTON 049 BLACK FORT B4-B4R NVL100405-1 NORVEL CYL/PISTON 049 SILVER FORT B4-B4R NVL100406 NORVEL CYL/PISTON 061 BLACK FOR B6-B6R What is the difference between the "silver" and the "black fort:? As well, can anyone tell me tha different applications for the following headgaskets for a .15. Is is simply to adjust compression? Most imprtantly,,,which one should I purchase as spares? NVL30011215 NORVEL CYLINDER GASKET 15 NVL300117023 NORVEL GLOW HEAD GASKET 15 NVL300117043 NORVEL GLOW HD GASKET 15[3.4mm NVL300117065 NORVEL GLOW HD GASKET 15 [5] NVL3001173 NORVEL GLOW HD GASKET 15 .1mm The catalog numbers don't quite match the Norvel numbers and I was hoping is someone coudl give me the function and cedessity (as spares) of these parts it would greatly helo me out (especiall...what is a :black fort pistion" Same here...what should I have asoares? A4 and A4R designate AME .049 C/L and the AME .049 RC respectively. B4 and B4R are the Big Mig C/L and R/C .049 models. A6, A6R, B6 and B6R are the AME and Big Mig .061 models -- the R is for R/C. The BLACK is for the newer REVLITE AAO cylinder technology. The SILVER is the older AAN cylinder, smaller fins and notches for the cylinder screws. |
RE: Norvel spare parts
The different head gasket thicknesses allow you to adjust compression -which as you (hopefully) will have realised through perusing this forum) is often required to fine tune engines for prop fuel and climatic condition variables. A great pity that Norvel seem to be the only manufacturer currently making this option available. If Cox had done it we would have had a lot less trouble over the years! A combination of thicknesses may be required for a particular fuel and prop, and the different thicknesses can be 'ganged' to produce a fairly wide variation in shimming. The better F1C engines in the past required this, and Rossis and in particular the superlative AD 15, had a range of head shims ranging from 0.0015" up to 0.007". If Norvel did the same thing for their smaller engines we'd be even better off!
