Love to hear stories about these conversions. We should set up a conversion fund, maybe even a glow conversion brotherhood? A guy in the speed forum already coined the phrase "Goo Crew".

I'd like to join the Slime Sub-Crew for electric to diesel conversions. Some time later this Spring there will be enough space on my bench to get beyond doing the fuselage of a PAW .03 powered Micro Telemaster. Right now it's filled with 1/2A control line stuff.

Very nice... can't wait to see how it turns out!

Oh, it looks like you found a good way to make use of those old battery packs! :D

RE: Electric pylon racer converted to glow

Yes I have some 8cell 3000mah Nimh Kan batteries that I used to use in my Ripmax Spitfire and Nigel Hawes Tucano and lots of 8cell 1000mah Nimh Kan that I used to use in multiplex foamies. I have never used them since I discovered Lipos, even though the big nimh in particular are hardly used. I dont like having to charge batteies before I go flying, its much easier to do so after a session, then I can just grab em and go!

Those nicds work well for portable engine starter packs. Mount a project box on the bottom of your starter to hold a 10-12 cell nicd pack.

Looks like a quick build - is there any chance you could post some basic dimensions and the general wing construction?

I'm really interested is seeing how this turn out...

36" wingspan, tailplane 10.25" across, Fuz 27.5" to firewall. Let me know if you need more details. Wing cut from quarter inch sheet balsa and profiled with a plane/ sandpaper.

That's looking very, very sharp. Falls right in line with some of the other SWRs that have shown up here.

What magazine was that pullout plan in?

RE: Electric pylon racer converted to glow

Thanks, yes it does look nice. It was in the September 2007 edition of "Quiet and Electric Flight" - A UK magazine. They will have a fit when I send them the photo of the model with a noisy engine fitted!

Finished this morning, then ran-in the engine and maidened it in a blizzard! Final; weight 477 grammes or 1 lb and seven eights of an ounce dry. This includes 7grammes noseweight. The model flies like a pylon racer should. This AP engine is sweeter than my other one and throttles and idles properly. A great model for this engine.

Yeah Baby! (in my best Austin Powers voice) That's the way to show them how it SHOULD have been designed! :)

Now, get back out there and get us some video!

Pluriel --

Can't really tell from the pics, but your wing looks to have a full span spruce or hardwood spar. Will you give us a little detail on the wing construction? Did you use any tapered sheet, or shape it entirely from 1/4" stock. How did you make up the wingtips -- they look good with the upsweep.
